Daily Outfit -- 22nd November 2008
[ 22 November 2008 ]

I went out last night with my friends Nick & Joel & had a great time. Here’s what I wore!

Purple ruffle dress (from ‘Necessary Clothing’ on Broadway, NYC — I know you’re going to ask, so I thought I’d pre-empt you!)
Black PVC cinch belt (same place)
Black sequinned hoodie (Forever 21)
Black lamé leggings (American Apparel)
Guess Borda platform mary janes (Solestruck love!)
Rings from Tarina Tarantino & CHAPTER
Necklace by Lucid New York
Sparkly skull earrings (Hallowe’en superstore!)
By the way, I’m so happy with my MAC Studio Tech foundation. God it’s good. Swoon-o-rama!

(In case you’re curious, this is what I wore on this day last year. Wow. My life is SO DIFFERENT now!)
Love letters & feather headdresses,

Looking gorgeous, as always. I love how that hoodie glitters, it’s totally mesmerising.
I must say, in that second to last picture you have a very slight resemblance to Audrey Kitching (which is a good thing!).
Wow you look so different this time last year. Your life really has changed so much! Well done Gala, it’s an inspiration ;)
That dress is amazing!!
@Kati: The hoody was so sparkly it entranced me on more than one occasion!
Still in love with the hoodie.
I love that you have changed so much in just one year, I find that really inspiring! :)
what an amazing transformation! It’s always funny – the year seems to fly by, but when u look back at pics u can see the difference! :)
Such a beautiful dress too xxx
your hair color is so pretty! i want to steal it from you!
i need a cute, feminine hoodie to wear with a jungle-print sundress today (melbourne’s weather is ridiculous at the moment!) and that one just makes me sad that it’s not in my wardrobe.
Kati — Thanks, sweetness! I think changing, evolving & growing is really important, so that’s a wonderful compliment. xxx
Joel — Hahah. Is that why you kept telling me how sparkly I was? :D
orinoco — Thank you! I look at those old photos & don’t even feel like I am the same person any more!
brodie — I feel you! A good hoodie is important in this weird transition weather!
Wow I looove the sequined hoodie n_n.
It makes me so happy when I type in galadarling.com and a new post has been posted!! Usually I’m like, “it’s Saturday, she has a fabulous life to live…” and then I click anyway. So, yeah for weekend updates!!
You look fabulous, by the way :]
Boooooootylicious!
I absolutely adore people that are constantly reinventing themselves! Fabulous as always! :D
I love that you look so different yet are still breaking out the AA black lame leggings exactly one year later! Just goes to show how you have such versatile style.
I absolutely love this oufit! Haha, plus i thought id like to add that not everything is different. Still one year later you say ‘Swoon-o-rama’ about amazing clothing/products. :)
I love the action of the ponytail in the second photo. It’s like a physical SWOOSH photo! And that dress is great. :)
Samantha — I just noticed that too! They’ve held up pretty well, huh?!
Hayls — That’s so funny, haha. It’s true, I do like to make up ridiculous words!
Gorgeous outfit! It’s amazing how much your style has evolved in a year, I think you look great!
I love that dress and the belt especially! Do they have an online store?
I’m totally psyched because I just ordered the Guess Borda shoes for myself. Cannot wait for them to get here!
tee hee. you said “swoon-o-rama” in both of the posts!
i love looking back at old pictures!
especially when you notice things that stay the same.
something i’ve noticed about your transformation.
in the beginning of iCiNG, you had incredibly quirky, different outfits, then you sort of phased out into more conservative, sleek looks. now you’ve got the best of both worlds! quirky yet classy and elegant!
ps: i adore that jacket, and the word swoon-o-rama!
gorgeous!!!
daily outfit posts are some of my favorites :)
gooooooooooood outfit. you look like you’re wearing the sartorial equivalent of liquorice allsorts!
I’ve recentlly aqcuired a MAC obsession and just might have to try that next! And I can’t get over those shoes! I think they’re so cute but I wouldn’t be able to take 2 steps before toppling over. I admire your skill :)
Stunning. I love it!
Totally awesome. I love that you wore this slammin’ outfit somewhere that I have been myself, ie Wellie.
(At first I thought that tasteful wallpaper was the inside of a garage door . . .)
hey gala.look great.
when you say you dont even recognise yourself what do you mean?i think you’ve always been fanatstic!
..and also out of mere curiousity what are your favourite places to hang out at in wellington?
simply put…you’re a vision!
Michelle — No, they don’t have an online store, unfortunately. It’s a super-cheap place, kind of an insane rummage sale with lots of stuff probably made in China — that kind of thing doesn’t lend itself to online shopping I guess! You will love the Bordas, too. So much happy!
tatiana — Haha, I know!
Kelsey — Thanks, lovely! I think you’re right about the progression so far! I definitely go through phases, & as my life changes, my style does too.
ladyhawke — Merci beaucoup! Those photos of me in Melbourne feel like a world away. My life has really changed so much since then that I don’t really remember what it was like to be that girl, does that make sense? I don’t really have any favourite places in Wellington any more, since I have only spent about a month & a half here in the last year, but I like Espressoholic, Mighty Mighty, Matterhorn & the SF Bathhouse ;>
Looking simply divine, as per usual Miss Gala!
On an unrelated note but still important, I know that you have had a newfound love for vampires. This makes me wonder, did you see Twilight? And if so, what did you think of it?
Ohh this post has totally inspired me to start taking daily outfit pictures! I want to track how I’ve changed.
But one thing that hasn’t changed are your cool belts :]
好靓!用汉语在远处问候你……
Oh man that hoodie is so amazing, I am eternally jealous. That foundation looks BRILLIANT! Do you possibly know how much it would set me back to buy some in NZ dollars?
am totally in love with that ruffle dress. want it. need it. now.
The only thing you haven’t changed are the black lamé leggings :)
Wow! Gobsmacked!
What a wonderfull treat on a boring Sunday!
And look at you hair!! You’re getting such an awesome main! I hope it keeps growing!
And even the poses are funky!
Vixxie.
I love your style, this outfit is breathtaking!
Awww man I will NEVER get sick of seeing you wear that stunning purple ruffle dress.
It’s oh-so-wonderfullll. :)
And the platform mary janes! Gorgeous!
And 300 hair extensions suits you.
Loving the thicker but still fabulous pink hair!
And man your style has changed in a year!
I spose mine has a bit.. not much.
I’m trying!
Haha.
Thanks for the inspiration Gala!
hey gala, love the outfit, thats exactly how i would like to and do dress!!
i looked at the link that shows your outfit on the same day last year and realised that i have been reading your blog obsessively for over a year!! omg how i have changed in that time too! and im sure that you have influenced that and been the positive force that has made my life better and re-affirmed a few things for me. thanks;D
does anyone know where you can get those black lame leggings in melbourne? i dont think we have american apparel here. cheers!
I love this so much! You look great! And by the way, can I borrow some of that New Zealand sunshine!? I have snow in my back garden right now and would love sunshine instead! xx
You look more glamourous now! But in both pics you match your hair to your clothes =)
Maya’s right, I was about to comment on that! I like it though, it looks great on you. I don’t know if I’d be able to carry off pink or blue hair, lol.
1. You look super cute, as always and 2. Last night I dreamed that a bunch of famous people/people that I admire were at my grandma’s house for Thanksgiving, and you were Cousin Gala! haha. :D Jesus was there, as well. huh.
GALA!!
my closet has become very full lately.
mostly with spring dresses that i havent figured out how to winterfy yet and a PETTICOAT AND two pairs of bloomer shorts yellow and pink.
i love working at a thrift store!!
plus i have a pretend romance at work. we tease each other and then he buys me pens that match my nail polish.
AND we both wore our halloween shorts on the same day yesterday…almost a month after halloween…haha.
stay tuned for save the dates
i love you in this dress – when i see it, it makes me happy!
gala, loving the look and i dont know why but you look loads more confident in the photo to date. :)
Heather — No, I haven’t seen it. I’m going to read the book first. It’s on my bedside table along with a stack of others!
Pinkee — No idea. Call one of the local MAC shops & ask!
danielle — There’s an AA in Prahran! & it’s awesome that you have changed so much, kudos to you!
kaz — If I had the power to share it with you, you know I would!
Kate — Aahaha, that’s awesome. Did Jesus put on a good party?!
Betty Oakes — Fingers crossed for fledgling pretend romance!
holly — Thanks, cutie :> I think a lot of that is due to how my life has changed! Taking risks & doing scary things (leaving a long-term relationship, living in a new city alone & supporting yourself there, travelling by yourself, etc.) makes you SO much more confident in who you are!
Gah! You are just too cute!! This is one of my ultimate favourite Daily Outfits so far, to be honest!
you look soo incredibly amazing. i’ve been eyeing that sequin hoodie for quite some time; i love how you work it into your outfits!
xoxo.
La C.
ps – i’ve fallen in love with your blog!! love the positivity & individuality you have :)
I’ve been visiting your site for ages and ages and have never left a comment so I thought that I would. I love that you used ‘swoon-o-rama’ in your description for last years daily outfit on the same day =D. I notice random things as you can tell lol. And not to be cheesy, but you’re a real inspiration =). Keep rocking
Hey danielle there is also an AA on Brunswick Street now too!
Haha, Gala it is a year ago I made you that crazy belt and as you may know from your gorgeous friend Jess that I am now doing bridal and beaded flashy bits and going for a business name change!
It’s not only fashion that evolves.
Woo you look like a princess pinkness!
I love the cheeky way your ponytail sticking out! Perhaps a bit of windy Wellington styling? ;D You look so happy and content.
I definately sent my mom a picture of the hoodie and she went to Forever 21 and found it! And I got it for my birthday!! Its so nice!
And I love how the cuffs and the edge of the hood is so thick and warm! I really love it.
And Im really glad you posted it.
So cute! your hair looks totes fab in this picture (hahaha, oh I cannot even type those words with a straight face).
That is crazy to reflect on an entire year and it’s transitions. My life was soo different last year too, different job, different boy, different apartment, roommates. Crazy!
OH MY LORD NECESSARY CLOTHING STILL EXISTS?!
I discovered it on my first trip to NYC and bought about half the inventory of my closet, but when I returned, their Soho location was gone. I nearly had a tantrum on the sidewalk.
olivia — Aw, thank you! I felt really good in it, I think it shows :>
Antonia — That’s great kitten! Well done. I hope it goes brilliantly for you!
sarah von — Haha, it was so windy that night that I thought my false eyelashes were going to blow right off my face!
cdazzle — Yay, hoodie twins! I’m glad you like it, I love mine.
Freya — Totes fab, brillo ya?! Haha. It’s terrible, I started saying “totes” in jest & now it has worked its way into the real, non-ironic portion of my vocabulary… It’s amazing how much can happen in a year if you’re committed to change, huh?!
Iphigenia — Yes ma’am! I bought the dress & belt above from there, as well as a black maxi-dress which I adore!
very cute, i love the belt!
I love the colour of your dress and hair together. Gorgeous!
How do you do your hair like that, in that style of parting and pony tail? I try but it always goes wrong!
so cute, you said swoon-o-rama both days! ;9
