Daily Outfit: 5th February 2010 -- Plus, Win A Violetville Vintage Gift Certificate!
[ 8 February 2010 ]

Bonjour, bonjour! This is my outfit from Friday.
Walking around the East Village in winter is kind of eerie, there’s hardly anyone around & it’s very quiet — totally the opposite of how it is in my neighbourhood in summer! But then, it’s also bitterly cold… Brrrr!

I love the colour of this building, it’s like peppermint sorbet.
I am wearing…
50s dress courtesy of Violetville Vintage
Black tulle petticoat from Leg Avenue worn underneath
Black cashmere cardigan from Urban Outfitters
Black jacket from H&M
Black stockings
Iggy heels by Harajuku Lovers
Black headband from Charlotte Russe
Diamante skull ring
This dress was sent to me by Tina from Violetville Vintage. Anyone with a penchant for high quality vintage clothing knows about this brilliant company! After many years dominating eBay’s vintage clothing market (no joke!), Tina has struck out on her own & now has a dedicated website at Violetville Vintage dot com! The site launched recently & is stocked to overflowing with truly fabulous, one-of-a-kind vintage frocks, outerwear, accessories & footwear. She really does look for flattering shapes, fabulous fabric & interesting details — she has a great eye & it shows. Just have a flick through her shop & you’ll see exactly what I mean.
But the best thing? We’ve teamed up so that you can go in to win a $50 Violetville gift certificate! All you have to do is click the link! Click click! CLICK CLICK!
Now then… more pictures!

I’m laughing so hard in this picture because I’m standing in front of a bus shelter showing an ad for toilet paper! Chloe said, “Don’t worry! Your dress is so huge that no one will even be able to tell!” The girl was RIGHT!

My nailpolish is OPI DS Exclusive. It’s a really pretty, super-sparkly cranberry.

I had a little old lady come up to me while I was wearing this & tell me how much she loved my outfit — maybe it reminded her of dresses she used to wear?! Anyway, it was a beautiful moment in the East Village.

As I was standing on a street corner having these photos taken, a guy stopped his van & yelled out the window, “ARE YOU LADY GAGA?” Time for a hair change, perhaps… !

Thank you again to Tina of Violetville Vintage & don’t forget to enter to win a $50 gift certificate!

Love letters & feather headdresses,

Gorgeous! Simply beautiful, very Mad Men-esque. Violetville is So amazing!
Such a beautiful outfit Gala!! Gorgeous :)
That dress is simply sublime! I adore the 50s silhouette, I need to find some beautiful vintage pieces myself – all I have at the moment are imitations which whils gorgeous, just aren’t the real thing!
Stunning. I love the last photo!
You look so…Harajuku retro lolita goth princess. i love the line (and pattern) of that skirt with that jacket. COOL!
this is the awesomest daily outfit post i’ve seen in ages. you look so vibrant and you reeeally suit the dress. nice work on the photos to chloe!
I LOVE that headband… I think I may have to check out that store for myself!
usually i admire your style but it’s not something i’d choose for myself, but i LOVE everything about this. so so adorable. but you’ve still got to be freezing! this city is so frigid right now, it’s all i can do not to say to hell with fashion and layer up in sweaters and my big puffy coat every day.
Love this outfit! So very cute. The photos of you smiling real big are awesome and make me smile! haha!
Gorgeous. But how did you do that without gloves? Your fingers must have been freezing!
You’re gorgeous, Gala!
haha ‘are u lady gaga?’ i can see that :oP love your outfit. it’s fabulous
I love the jacket so much! I definitely need to get a tiny ‘leather’ jacket at some point because they are always so brilliant.
Holy heck Gala, you look INCREDIBLE! These photos are amazing, Chloe is one very talented little lady indeed!
xoxo
It seems like when Chloe takes your photos, they come out looking very genuine and natural. Is that just the effect Chloe has or what? Well, she does a great job, anyway. I love this outfit, too. And what did you say/do when they asked if you were Lady Gaga? That’s so funny.
I LOVE the shoes!! They are super cool! The dress is also amazing, you look really pretty! xx
Mary — I’m very comfortable around her & when we spend time together, we both laugh all the time, so that’s the bulk of what gets captured!
Thanks everyone, it was fun to shoot these so I’m glad you’re enjoying looking at them!
I LOVEEE THAT DRESS! That last picture is SUPER CUTE!
Horray! :D
Nice pics!!!
I love the motiv on the dress!!!
And: hair change? Yes :D wonder what you’ll come up with!
Your smile is so infecteous! :)
LOVE this one!
A question about the shoes, do they run true to size? And are they reasonably comfortable (rather than pain-inducing and having to be taken off within 5mins)? I saw the video of them on Heels.com and was torn between the black/white and the plain black – or maybe both! – but since I live in the UK I want to be extra sure before I shell out on shipping.
And the last photo of you is the best, definitely :)
Sugar K — They’re pretty comfortable, actually, I think because they’re not too high & the heel is much wider than I’m used to. They run relatively true to size, they may run a fraction larger. I’m usually a 7.5 or an 8, & I ordered an 8 because I read that they ran small, & it is ALMOST too big. The 7.5 would have been right for me. I’d say to order your normal size — if it’s not right you can always return them anyway!
Those shoes are lovely! I’m definitely interested in a pair for myself.
And you look fantastic, as per usual
Hey Gala, The contest says to sign up for the Icing mailing list. I think I signed up for one months ago but haven’t been getting anything from it. Do you have a new one or is this the same thing?
Mar — Oh, nope, this is for the Violetville mailing list. My newsletter, Cupcake, is on hiatus but I’m revamping & reinvigorating it, & when it becomes available again, you’ll get an email (& I’ll announce it for everyone else!). xo!
you look so amazing! i love how you’ve styled the outfit! thank you thank you!!
Haha! Celebrity Hair Confusion! That’s priceless. I remember when I shaved my hair into a buzzcut, and then “V for Vendetta” came out in the theaters like two days later. Random people from across the street would stop and gawk, thinking I was Natalie Portman. Flattering, but sadly, I am not.
I love this outfit! I would totally wear that!
Love the silhouette of that dress, skirts and dresses are always so much more fun when they’re a bit poofy. Looks great with the jacket too, kind of like a 50s bad girl.
And you have a gorgeous smile!
Wow, that’s one incredible dress, lady! Jealous!
Wow. Gala these are all breathtaking. Happy to see someone braving the cold – especially looking so dapper!
I think the quest for Radical Self Love has already had an affect on me. I find myself drawn to commenting here, when before I’d stay in the background, never voicing my thoughts. I’m excited to express this confidence in the rest of my life (sometimes I am slow to speak my mind).
Looks as though you had a lovely adventure with your partner in crime. ;]
Lovely lovely!! I like how your coffee cup matches PERFECTLY!
x
Love the outfit and the smiling! Plus, the background of the photos make me miss NY!!!!
Gala, this outfit is amazing! You look wonderful :) and the headband is such a great touch
Lady Gala! hahaha
That dress is trippy, and the shoes are adorable. All in all a great outfit. I hope we see more Gala/Chloe collaborations in the future! (Gloe? Chala? hehe)
lovely!!!
Gala, I swear you are the cutest thing I have ever seen!! Keep up the brilliant work!
very drape gang and very beautiful.
What a fun and gorgeous outfit! The heels might just be my favorite part.
love the shoes :)
The Lady Gaga part was very funny Gala, I been missing your daily outfit posts!
Love the outfit! You look so….. New York!
This photo shoot is great!
Okay, I normally don’t comment at all but this just deserves it…it’s just absolutely amazing. The dress is really stunning, the headband is just magical and you look absolutely gorgeous. But not just like pretty gorgeous but also like happy and just utter.
This outfit is beyond perfect! Really, really love it. Chloe’s a great photographer and superlol at the Lady Gaga thing!
Your dress is gorgeous! The last time I was in New York, I spent a lot of time walking around the East Village. It’s so lovely up there.
you look amazing! i love everything about your outfit :]
& the pictures are lovely as well.
I lovelovelove that headband!! I have a huger black flower clip in that I love to wear even though its giant and gaudy.
The Lady Gaga thing made me snort, I just imagine that man’s thoughts: “Is that, that Lady GaGa girl?? I should ask, just in case.”
Absolutely beautiful! You, your town, the outfit…everything!
LOVE those shoes!
I’ve often thought that Gaga was channelling Gala
Your outfit is perfection. Just saying.
Ohh, I LOVE that outfit, Gala! And those pictures are amazing, you look gorgeous. Have a faaabulous week, Gala! =)
You are super adorable, Gala! You should smile like that in every picture. And I love all of the black and white. It’s very Nubby Twiglet of you.
gala, you look gorgeous. :)
Ur outfit is spectacular (as always)! I love that even the coffee cup matches! Lol! I also wanted to pass on a nail color that I found that I’m in with; it’s Sally Hansen HD nail colour in “Pixel Pretty” 03. It’s like a bright teal colour! I think it would look smashing on u! The shoes, btw, r to die for!
Muchly luv!
So gorgeous! stop it, no, don’t! I really love these photos. You look so happy!
and Gala & Gaga are just one letter away – just saying. (Though I honestly don’t know where I’m going with that otherwise). See you soooon!
Heyy I have no Idea if this is weird but you’re so cute and adorable and I want to say thank you
thank you for giving me some sort of inspiration. That’s cheesy yes, but, lately I’ve been feeling a tad bit down and I’m really not one to admire myself but I’m taking that little challenge of yours for the radical loving and I’m hoping it works. I’ve mentioned it in my blog and after eating my pasta I’ll most likely head upstairs to find some sort of totem..
but enough.. this is such an adorable outfit!
-New Fan (Isadelovely)
These are beautiful pictures of you! It’s adorable that someone asked if you were Lady Gaga.
Wow you look beautiful..
Beautiful pics, clothes & person! Love the color of that building, as well. I would name it “Tiffany Box Blue”. Simly stunning when shot in contrast to your gorgeous ensemble. Thanks for a great theme this month. Loving it!
HA! Love the outfit and love the photos. You can see my apt in the back ground, the tall brick buildings on 14th street:)
You look totally lovely and this is weird but your nail polish color is making me thirsty. I wish I had a Cape Cod.
My kids don’t think you are Lady Gaga – they think Lady Gaga is you! Love the outfit and the gorgeous photos.
this outfit is SO fabulous – I can’t even begin to describe! It’s quirky but class, I wish I could get away with wearing it where I live (uh, and also that I could walk miles of city streets in heels)
That first photo reminds me of Debbie Harry. So fierce… lol.
Fabulous! You look like Debbie Harry!
Hi Gala!
That outfit is fantastic!!! BTW I tried clicking on the giveaway link and the page would not load. :(
Gorgeous outfit- I love how the skirt is so wide and swoopy and A-line!
I love the outfit; it’s totally something I’d wear! You are gorgeous!
I LOVE seeing smiley pictures of you!
And I agree, I adore the color of that building- I’m such a sucker for minty green/blue things!
You look great— especially love the shoes!
This is a great outfit, and I’ve been noticing a general boost in quality and content around here lately- keep up the good work!
Amazinggg! & I bet that guy on the bike was just like whuut.
Certainly my most favourite outfit – ever! I love it! I agree with other commenters re: your collaborations with Chloe – you both just seem to gel so well & it comes across in the pics so beautifully!!
I love this! Especially since I have that jacket! I never thought to pair it with a full skirt/dress.
That first photograph is incredible. All the photographs are beautiful, but I saw that first one and it is seriously a work of art. Absolutely love it. Love and Joy xxx.
Lovely, gosh you are gorgeous!!
I want to be like you when i grow up :)
Gala, this is my absolute favorite outfit you have ever featured! I know I say that about, like, every outfit, but really—you look amazing! And kudos to Chloe! These photos are beautiful.
oh BABY BABYYY!!! That dress is IT. It is IT. Gorgeous. Shoes, also so stunning and cute at the same time. Little heart shaped clasps? Wonderful!
Totally great. So in love.
Hey Gala!
Your photos don’t really load in IE either, haven’t done for months, on any post.
I LOVE WHEN YOU SMILE WITH YOUR MOUTH OPEN!
I’m sorry, I couldn’t not comment to say how absolutely fab that dress is! And those shoes!!x
Wow, that Lady GaGa comment is the ultimate compliment! Woo! You look great! :D
Love your outfit (that dress is amazingwonderful)! The setting looks beautiful too. :)
I mean this with the best of intentions, it seems you’re channelling a bit of the Carrie Bradshaw Sex and the city look with this outfit. The vintage dress with tulle petticoat looks timeless with the jacket and hat. I really love it.
Your blog is teaching me alot about fashion.
hey gala!
I looove the jacket! and the shoes! omgeeeee!
here’s my outfit of the day(feb 8,2010): insatiableruby.blogspot.com/ :)
I love your dress, that’s probably the first time I am liking a vintage piece!!!
Best shoes ever!
You look gorgeous!! And I love the shoes. Ever since I was finally able to get my hair to platinum (a few months ago) all I ever get is comparisons to Lady Gaga. So annoying!
Ah, the Lady Gaga outfit! I love the big skirt combined with the tight little jacket. Nice proportions.
I love the photos of the east village – is that the toilet paper ad across from Zum Schneider? if so I can see my apartment building in the background of photo :)
my new favorite thing to do around the area – go watch the dogs at the dog run in the park on a nice Sunday. so cute!
WHEREEEEEEEEEEE is that ring from?! i MUST have it IMMEDIATELY!!
One of the best outfits I’ve seen yet! LOVE your style!
xo
love love that dress
