Quote of the Day -- 4th June 2008
[ 5 June 2008 ]
“You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure about you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.” — Marianne Williamson
I would add to this:
Always be yourself. Your loud, brave, unabashed, scandalous, original, exceptional, truly magnificent, self-lovin’, horn-tootin’, crowd-wavin’, kiss-blowin’ self.
Always be yourself. You may face criticism, dirty looks & gossip over the back fence, but at least you will have honoured yourself, done your best, been true & authentic.
Always be yourself. No one else shines like you — nor can they illuminate a room, thrill onlookers or shatter perceptions in the amazing way you do.
Always be yourself. Your life is yours alone, to do with as you please. Don’t feel that you have to serve other people; in the end, it is only you who matters.
Always be yourself. If you want to live the life of your dreams, you have to make it happen. No one else is going to do it for you. Get off your toosh, toots, & start!
Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala ![]()

Quotes of the Day -- 3rd October 2007

Aw…thanks so much for writing this, Gala, I really do need it some days :)
I’ll do it Gala, I promise I will!!!
I think this is something we all need reminding of—-me in particular ;). Thanks, Gala!
This is an awesome way to start my morning! Thank you Gala :-)
awwww :-) just when i needed it
i have to agree with chloe — inspiration for a dreary morning!
thanks Gala. this is lovely.
Love this and love you!
gala, this was exactly what i needed, i woke up today feeling awful, lazy and bored and at odds with myself. perfect timing! xx
Inspiring. Thank you. =)
this is so true and this is something that I always need reminding of!
I’m a particularly loud mouth strange girl who doesn’t think about the other people watching her ie. I have no problems with dancing in public or telling people exactly what I’m thinking and sometimes I need to be reminded not to let other people’s opinions crush me and make me change who I am.
Couldn’t agree more. Well said!
I really needed that today! Thanks!!
I needed to read something like this!
The kick up the butt that I needed, thank you! x
This is one of my favourite quotes, but I’ve never heard it attributed to Nelson Rockefeller before! People said it was Nelson Mandela, too, but Marianne Williamson theoretically said it first, in her book A Return to Love. Wiki it and you’ll see the whole debate.
Powerful awesome thoughts, regardless of who said them!
Tis — Yeah! When I was trying to find it, I thought it was Nelson Mandela too, but then couldn’t find anything that attributed it to him. Oh well!
ahhh these are my favourite types of post =)
i always need reminding!
xxx
thanks for the reminder :) and it’s all SO true
Perfect…....good to have this reminder every now and then as it is easy to forget.
you read minds – i really needed to hear this today. started the day feeling energized and happy and lost it sometime when moodiness settled in.
so thank you, i needed the reminder today. i will go and be fabulous to myself now!
Bravo, daring Darling, bravo. & what a photo! I can’t stop staring at that breast. o_O
Great post. Thanks for writing it. Just what I needed to read today – and this was actually my first time visiting your site.
very well written and oh so true!
Lots of love!
Thanks, kittens. I’m pleased that it resonates with you!
JBD — It’s a very lovely bosom! :D
Much love, hugs and kisses for this!!!! Everyone should be themselves no matter who likes or doesnt like it!
Amazing post!! I’m saving this and printing this out, Gala. This made my day.
I needed to see this today. Thank you Gala :)
Thhis is absolutely wonderful, Gala. This is exactly what I try to tell my friends ALL the time. Thank you.
I will!
I really needed this.
Wheeeheeee!
Ooooh!!
:>
Wonderful.
Lovely advice! Always be yourself was written 5 times so you know its important.
Wow those words hit me straight to the heart, just what i needed to hear thank you Gala! I think i’m going to print this out and put it on the wall as a good reminder :)
i love you so much! you have no idea how much you inspire me, baby!
This is so great and something everyone should tape to their doors so it’s the last thing they see when they leave the house in the morning!
A dose of Gala a day keeps the gloomies at bay.
I love you girl. I thank you for inspiring so many to be themselves, myself included.
LOTS OF LOVE.
This is what they should be teaching kids today. The media puts such a horrible outlook on girls that if they don’t look or act a certain way, it’s not cool.
More girls – and guys for that matter – need to hear this!
I definitely try to live by this rule myself, although sometimes it can be difficult.
Fantastic. I’m going to take my fancy new fountain pen and write that out in my Moleskine alongside another quote I found today from a book I used to love when I was younger:
“The best way to treat obstacles is to use them as stepping-stones. Laugh at them, tread on them, and let them lead you to something better.”
‘Mr Galliano’s Circus’ – Enid Blyton
Fantastic post! I love the quote, the picture, your message…everything about it is 100% uplifting! Thank you!!
thats very inspirational. i think im going to be like those above and take these quotes down. its what i needed going through a dark time at the mo due to my ongoing chronic fatigue – which nobody else understands because of lack of awareness. and just going through some tough challenges. i reckon these will bring me up every day esp the bit about living life for ME its not about other people….i needed that.
thanks hun
This has really helped me feel more confident about enticing this boy I have a crush on to notice me as a girl for once!
Thank you so much gala!!
You always seem to brighten my day :3
inspiring words! but I would definitely disagree with that second-to-the-last bit. humans don’t live in a vacuum; we need to consider how our lifestyles and actions impact others. being happy is definitely important, but disregard for others isn’t going to get you there.
It’s nice to read all the reasons this resonates with everyone, personally I struggle with anxiety & it’s good to hear this now & then to make yourself think a little differently.
Gala, if you could do an article on reducing stress that would be amazing! xo
ps. Hi from Las Vegas! I usually dwell in Perth but like yourself have ventured out of the antipodes to big scary amerikaaaaa. it’s amazing here today cos its raining which apparently NEVERhappens! deserts! x
gala-
this is my first comment but most certainly not the first time i’ve visited your site! i’m absolutely hooked on this place!
thank you for your additions to this wonderful quote. like most others it completely resonated with me and seeing it here, on my fav site, just made it all the more clear to me that i need to start living!
i must also say that i love your adventures in new york! i’m going there for the first time next weekend and seeing you having a blast gets me excited!
well- all the best and keep being your wonderful self!
>waves @ kitten` from Perth<
It’s winter here and the weather has been really nice for the past few days. Uhh jinx? :P

Great Post!
wow :) this is exactly what i needed after my day, 5 of my closest friends have just stopped talking to me, for no apparent reason, and they have even sunk low enough to spread FALSE rumours about me
but this definetly gave me the boost i was looking for all day :)
Wow, Gala, this is exactly what I needed. :)
And as I can see from the zillions of comments above, everyone needs to be reminded of this from time to time. So I think I’ll stick this on my wall.
My class had to memorize that quote in eighth grade. Thank you for bringing back happy memories. Although, I remember there being a lot more to it than that… I’ll have to look it up.
That was perfect! Thanks, love!
What a lovely quote to wake up to on the sunniest day Brisbane has seen in well over a week! Trust you to make the most of this, even though you’re on the other side of the world =)
Gala, if you were any more uplifting, we’d have to sell you at Victoria’s Secret! =) I’m a new nonpareil, and I love how everything I’ve read so far just applies to my life so perfectly. So glad I’ve finally found someone (almost) exactly like me!!
thanks, gala! although I thought you’d used this quote before? Anyways, use more of them! I save most of them in my notebook, and I really apreaciate your input sometimes moreso than the actual quote!
Hey, thanks Gala. :) I’ve been feeling this way more and more over the past few weeks – sometimes it can be a little hard but there’s no reason for me to not be exactly who I am, and anyone who doesn’t like it can take a hike.
Thank you!
The first quote is my favourite quote.
There is more at the beginning though, then what is posted.
It is so influencial, so inspiring and so beautiful that I used it for my Valedictorian speech.
Truely exceptional.
this is awesome…
you are awesome!
amy beeeeee. yes maybe i’m taking the weather with me! eek! it’s been so hot here the past week that a little rain has been welcome :) I MISS PERTH SO MUCH THO! :( Going to Portland in a few days..
Vegetarian+Music Scene+Culture = my kinda town. Vegas = notsomuch! x
wow, i gave myself a similar pep talk yesterday when i was feeling extra shitty.
Amazing photo!
Looovely! Just the kind of thoughts that I need to refill my head with as I’m very tired n a bit bored being back at the office after a great vacation. Ohh and I also have to add – thanks for being such a sweetheart in real life too (we met on Broadway in a shoe store and I was so excited to meet you that I felt like I just rambled =).
Anna — Oh! HELLO! No, you didn’t ramble at all, you were completely adorable & I wished I wasn’t so sweaty & feeling more presentable, haha! I hope you managed to find some lovely stuff to squander your hard-earned cash on! It was lovely to meet you. Mwah!
I think it something that needs to be said over and over again, cause most people never realize it and those that do sometimes forget.
♥
kitten – they always say it never rains in vegas. when i was there it flooded and they were all like “oh wow, this is so unusual!”. desert folk are always trying to convince us it doesnt rain. i went to the grand canyon while i was there and it snowed! it was awesome!
xo.
also, you are really missing the point of williamson’s argument, namely that we “were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us”. this is not an inward looking, self satisfying view of life, but rather an acknowledgment of our purpose in life as glorifying
God. if you cannot accept the theological truths inherent in this, then you are largely missing the point of what she is saying here…
as inspirational as you may find it in a secular world view, it can only have a true and impacting meaning in a theological, soteriological and God-centered view. your additions can only take away from the true meaning of the quote.
lozabelle, I describe myself as an athiest, but I still see the truth in this quote, if you see yourself as a part of a greater whole, for me, nature/the universe, if you can see the great interconnectedness of all life, it’s not hard to see that being the best you can be can only help others be the best that they can be. People always find inspiration in others, why not live your best life possible and inspire others to be better themselves?
It’s that whole ‘be the change you can see in the world’ I reckon.
The picture is so liberating.
The quotes are lovely, but that picture is so alive!
Thanks for that.
I’m one of those people who are all about being yourself, and it’s nice to remember I’m not the only one. I think I’ll save this so I can read it every day I need some inspiration.
And that picture is gorgeous.
XD Best smiley ever. (Just thought I’d mention that)
thanks so much for choosing my photo for your blog. You really drove heaps of traffic to my site!
The quote and verbiage you attached to the picture made me see it in a totally new light. Thanks!
