Style Tips -- 15th December 2007

Sew a heart onto the underside of one of your gloves. Anatomical or crown of thorns — it’s your choice. Then you can raise your hand & show your heart as a secret salute!
Get photographs printed straight off your digital camera at a photo shop. Slap a stamp on the back & voilà! Instant postcard. I used to do this a lot, & often draw moustaches on the photos before sending them off. You can do the same thing with covers ripped from books, but I am a bit reckless when it comes to literature, so your mileage may vary…
Write someone (your mother, your ex-boyfriend, your English teacher) a letter telling them all the things they’ve done right. Whether you send it or not is up to you.
Buy a hyacinth for your work or creative area. There is an old Taoist proverb which says that if lost everything & had only two coins, you should use one to buy bread & feed your body, & the other to buy hyacinths to feed your soul. A hyacinth is a symbol of sincerity & a fabulous thing to be near!
“Poetry is the synthesis of hyacinths and biscuits.” — Carl Sandburg
Love letters & feather headdresses,

that postcard tip is awesome! I should send one like that to my sister (she’s living in London :( i miss her!)

Ee! Blythe is awesome! My girls salute you too!
I do want to write a letter some time.. but I don’t think I’d feel comfortable sending it.

xx tasj
I love writing letters to people telling them things I love about them, which is pretty close to things they’ve done right! Your idea sounds so much more touching and less of the I-happened-to-think-of-you way that I do it in, so I will try that, too, heeee.
:O!!!

You should do another article on letters Gala. I’ve noticed more penpal/postcard exchange websites springing up lately

I’ve been planning to send a few Christmas letters this year, and your photograph idea is so cool! If only I took more pictures… :)
drawing mo’s is fun!
Blythe dolls <3! Secret heart salutes -great idea! Sending a photo-postcard with curly moustaches, vampire teeth and mono-brows! That’s a lot more exciting than receiving traditional Christmas cards. Hehee! I’m loving this article, Gala!

that secret heart idea is absolutely ADORABLE. i am definitely going to do it! i might even buy some new gloves in honour of the occasion! xxx
I did just write a letter for my father for his birthday about everything he has done for me and how much I appreciate him—it was wonderful, he told me honestly it was the best gift he received that day.
And I want to sew a heart on my glove, the underside of sleeves and draw some into the soles of my shoes. _
Um, about the hyacinths..it’s not a Taoist proverb, it was originally a famous Persion poet called Sadi (Sheikh Muslih-uddin Saadi) who said that.
