Talking With Gala Darling About #RadicalSelfLove

[ 10 February 2010 ]

I’ve been following the online adventures of John ‘Halcyon’ Styn for a very long time. From his Globalgasm project all the way through to Grandpa Caleb & HugNation, I have always loved his flair & personal bravery. Most of all, though, I adore his commitment to using the internet to create digital intimacy & foster love on a global scale!

I’m pretty sure his pink tresses are what inspired me to go pink for the first time in 2006, & when I met him at Burning Man a couple of months later, I was very shy & very starstruck!

Fast-forward to Austin, Texas, 2009. We finally got to spend some time together during the madness of SXSW Interactive & it was great. I have met a lot of people through the internet (you better believe it!) & John is hands down one of my absolute favourites.

Last week, we did a little interview over Skype about the Radical Self Love phenomenon…

This is reposted from John’s Lifestudent site, which is amazing, you should hop to it!

I hope you enjoy it!

Last week at HugNation I read from GalaDarling’s awesome #RadicalSelfLove project… I was so inspired that I reached out to Gala and asked if she would be up for a quick Skype chat to talk about Love. And because she is awesome, she agreed. Here we are talking Love, life and pinkness:

Love & love & love,

  1. there’s something really true u guys say .. since i started reading Things I Love Thursday, i also started noticing fancy, freaky, cute little & funny news on the web & around me. I started stressing out stuff i was really into in that moment.
& i also started my own collection! its in my blog, & its once a week as well. I love to call it a collection or a summary, cos i keep all things i really like in one post.
so thank u gala honey, it was of good help for me.

  4. I just thought i’d share this since it’s in the same vein, but in the latest issue of Sark’s eletter, she sent out a heart you can print out that reads “I ____ am so in love with myself” It’s a perfect totem to print i think!

i’ve kept one since i was 7 and flipping through that time capsule is so profound… i remember what i felt at exactly those moments and it’s such a strange but intimate feeling to be transported to your younger self.

  19. Bawwww, you guys. I loved this interview!
Um, I just saw this and thought it was totally applicable.
    Source:http://unicornology.tumblr.com/post/382704828/if-you-can-think-of-times-in-your-life-that-youve

“If you can think of times in your life that you’ve treated people with extraordinary decency and love, and pure uninterested concern, just because they were valuable as human beings. The ability to do that with ourselves. To treat ourselves the way we would treat a really good, precious friend. Or a tiny child of ours that we absolutely loved more than life itself. And I think it’s probably possible to achieve that. I think part of the job we’re here for is to learn how to do it.”

    Epic win for sure!

  25. I love what you think about purchasing too much. I am a total Scrooge so I was so excited when I actually got both my radical self love bible AND totem for free! :D

The bible is pretty plain but the totem is this Minnie Mouse pen I recieved while attending an interview for Disneyland Paris. It is pink and sparkly! ^^

So… when does the next homework come up? :D
