Magazines, colour coding books, organizing magazines, great fitting jeans, my awesome style and fashion blog, great flat boots, being complimented on the way I dress just because it’s different, sharing sweaters with the boy I like, warm baths with LUSH bath bars, pashminas, beautiful notebooks, my “ode to autumn” post, designing jewelry, making earrings, walking in the cold, beautiful fall coats, great looking outfits, Celtic Woman, Enya, fairtrade tea and chocolate, making a difference, homemade brownies, and finally…

My little list … Nurofen (it got rid of my headache OH SO QUICKLY), my newly-layered haircut, huge books on Tudor England(!), flowers in the paddocks, jojoba oil, going to the Sound of Music with my baby, looking forward to Mamamia, upcoming parties and wondering what the hell to wear … oh so many things to be excited about!

  10. You never fail to cheer me up! For real! I was in the worst mood because I had lost my favorite fake hipster glasses and I have a mountain of homework, but as soon as I got done reading this, I hopped up, made myself some noodles, and dug right in.

Here’s what I looove this week!

My boyfriend. As always. I get to see him this weekend! We are playing house together in his parent’s lakeside condo. I cannot WAIT to snuggle and stay up late and do unmentionable things with him :)

Thrift stores. This past Sunday, I bought a peacock-tail necklace from a tiny place about an hour away. It’s huge and gorgeous and has tiny silver chains hanging down the center of it. I have gotten so many compliments every time I wear it, it is possibly the most fabulous thing I own.

Fuzzy plaid flannels. On this same shopping trip I bought a dark blue one at Marshall’s for $12 and I have probably slept in it every night this week. It’s great for layering because of its length, and it is just so cozy! Lovelovelove.

Spontaneous modeling. I went down to this local boutique earlier today to buy a yellow plaid lumberjack hat that I’ve had my eye on; I was wearing the aforementioned flannel and a pair of jeans I had bought there, and the shop girl asked me to go outside to pose for some modeling shots! It was probably the highlight of my day.

That’s about it for now; I have a MOUNTAIN of homework to take care of and a boyfriend to talk to. Thanks again for cheering me up!

  14. The amazingly delicious apple I had for lunch today. It was one of the best apples ever grown, in the history of the world. It was just THAT good.

Also: starting to sort out my feelings; hair-dyeing anticipation; the fact that even though I didn’t finish all my homework last weekend, I did manage to sort out my career plans; having enough food in the fridge to tide me over until I have time to shop again; cookies’n‘cream ice cream; hearing that rent prices have dropped recently (in New York!); the spike in cold weather; figuring out how to cut bangs; talking to people with ease today; almonds; House (still); when people on the street are nice and not mean; dreaming about the tube in London; the amazing spectacle of the silver moon rising from a pale-edged cloud. And…

Gala’s party idea of “mandatory glitter for everyone” made me smile.

  31. Oh man I’ve been waiting for this tilt because I have so much to love this week!!

*My new Doc Martens. They’re shiny black patent, 14-hole, with a pointy toe!! I call them my magical Gala boots because they remind me of magic and Gala ;)

*My old-ass yellow boots that always get a million compliments. I busted them out today for the first time this year and their compliment-coaxing powers did not disappoint.

*Being told my outfit reminded someone of the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. Hells YES.

*Watching Jane Austen movies in class. Seriously, getting university credit for watching charming young Victorian gentlemen parade around in top hats? Yes, I’ll get an A++ in that class.

*Fantastic Big shampoo and Veganese conditioner from Lush. My hair has never looked so good.

*Generation A by Douglas Coupland. Great book from a great author with a freaky twist at the end. So good.

*Brand new music from tons of artists. I’ve been listening to so much old stuff lately, it was nice to hear something new and fresh.

I’ve only been doing it for three weeks in a row now, but it’s so nice to spend the time thinking of things I love, or am grateful for, or that make me happy. So thank you for the inspiration, and thank you for your wonderful blog.

  38. After reading your blog, Miss Gala, I have officially decided to focus more on what makes me happy. I am known to worry a TON, but thinking about the happy parts of my life has really helped! So for this week, what is making me super happy is the fact that I got to have some really wonderful laughs with my father, who is one of my heroes, Tomato Bisque from Noodles (so amazingly good!) with flatbread, making a new friend who is beyond gorgeous inside and out, snuggling in my snuggie, and having the most lovely conversation with one of my literature professors who I adore! She’s just so down to earth, intelligent, and compassionate, it was a breath of fresh air and made me so happy.

  61. Just reading your list makes me happy, Gala! :)

    -Apron parties
My BFF had her b-day party over the weekend and everyone had to wear an apron. It’s so handy when you’re drunkenly snacking on things. Perfect place to wipe your hands. And dancing in one is actually quite fun! :)

    -Bravery
I got to see the Cuteboy that I’ve been getting to know, and we had a lovely time at the party. Though I was too nervous to ask him in person, I e-mailed him the next day and asked if he wanted to hang out, just the two of us, sometime. I probably wouldn’t have been able to do that a year ago. (an he said yes, btw!!!)

    -Really long phone calls
Despite being tired from the weekend, He and I talked for 3 hours on Monday night. I don’t remember the last time I was on the phone that long. :)

    -Relationship maturity
I’m impressed with how I’m handling the situation with Cuteboy. I don’t need to have a “boyfriend” but I’m happy to have the company. And I’m pretty sure he feels similarly. This is very very good for me. :)

    -Improved Podcast Audio
The Audio for my podcast has been the bane of my existence since February. Constant frustration over Volume and quality. (we are across the country from each other and usually record via Skype) My partner and I FINALLY figured out how to record it so it sounds good. *sigh of relief

    -Jojoba Oil and Melatonin
YOU WEREN’T KIDDING! I had really bad beard rash on my face (too much making out…) so I went and bought some Jojoba oil to see if that would help. My skin feels FAB! and The Melatonin is amazing! I have issues relaxing when I go to bed. a half tablet calms me right down. I’m excited to see how it works on my jet lag when I go on my trip in 9 days! :) (Thanks for the tips!!)

    -Enjoying life
I’m really comfortable with things right now. It’s very nice.

p.s. I love that picture of the starry bed. It gave me an idea for when I get my studio in NYC! :)

  74. knee-high stockings, garters, ruffles, my coffee table covered in color-coded magazine cut-outs waiting to be made into an inspiration board, quitting my serving job and getting my hours at my new better job doubled, doing things way ahead of deadlines, having to stand on the crowded bus and talk to strangers, when baristas call me by name, peoplewatching on the third really cold day of the year and seeing the odd transitional wear: everything from flip-flops and leggings to chic blazers and winter scarves, saying “hello sir!” to smiling guyfriends on bicycles and thus feeling like we live in a 19th century village, people that hold doors, dealing with all the red tape my university is sending my way with a smile and not giving up.
