Things I Love Thursday
Photo by the incredible Elena Kalis.

WHAT A WEEK! A couple of days ago, my computer totally pooped itself & thus yesterday/last night/this morning was spent reinstalling my O.S. & all my programs. Quel dommage! The bad news — I lost the Carousel I was compiling (& it was a goodie!) & a few articles that were half- or almost finished. The good news — everything important is backed up on my external hard-drive (& I wrote a whole lot of this week’s TiLT on the back page of a Moleskine I was using for writing class!). PHEW. The lesson? Don’t install dodgy fonts! It is not worth the anguish!

ALRIGHT! So here we go with the lurve list!

Numero uno has got to be the fact that I am up & operational again! Having a computer which works is such a blessing. I sent a message to my editor on Tuesday night: My computer isn’t booting up, just went to Apple store to have someone look at it but won’t be able to get an appointment until tomorrow night. Ugh. Sorry. Will try newfangled “writing on paper” until then. The horror! It’s just not the same, so I am really happy… !

I also love The Dish, for saying, “I love your outfit, it’s perfect”, when I was wearing a hot pink tulle crinoline with motorcycle boots, an inverted pentagram t-shirt & a striped undershirt. I love him even more for taking me to a motorbike show while I wore it, & holding my hand! Haha!

Things I Love Thursday
Photos by Elena Kalis. These photos make me wish for a very magical summer!

<3 Other things I am super-<3ing: Researching eyelash treatments (as soon as my eyelash extensions fall off — & they are holding pretty tight right now! — I am all over the generic version of Latisse! I already ordered it, details & reviews to come!); Prometheus Springs‘ Pomegranate Black Pepper Capsaicin Spiced Elixir (you have no idea, it is so delicious); Burt’s Bees Repair Serum (I started using it a few days ago & I swear it is a miracle-worker); lemon slice; eating salad for dinner & feeling rad & virtuous; the fact that my writing class is all women (there’s just something cool about that); watching the snow fall outside my window; “We’re having a sexy party”; George Michael (<3); Amazon gifts (thank you so much Rhymney!); re-doing one of my vision boards (it is all pink & white, Marie Antoinette & pulp fiction covers, flower-encrusted shoes & fuschia feathers & the last days of disco); looking forward to seeing Jake Money next month; filming in Molly’s amazing apartment while wearing sequinned ears; Elena Kalis’ photography; planning my movements for NYFW (the most exhausting but also one of the most exhilirating weeks of the year); plotting photoshoots; Knonam; booking plane tickets; snuggling in a big pile with my family; laughing on the phone with my mother until I can’t breathe; exciting invitations; dreaming up outfits; upcoming Chinese New Year; clean clothes & clean sheets; this; the staff at the Apple store who really do make you feel okay about the fact that you are about to lose everything on your computer; FreshDirect (s-e-r-i-o-u-s-l-y g-r-e-a-t); Miss Chloe; keeping secret candy stashes (just call me Grandma Darling, or, Claudia Kishi!!!); the life & cuisine of Elvis Presley; skull everything; cheap rings covered in crystals; the Chelsea Hotel (it’s the first place I ever stayed in NYC, back in 2006, & I still feel very fond of it); when free cabs show up as soon as you step into the street; walking in the snow (it is like a magical optical illusion, though apparently I am the only one who sees this?!); rice crackers; daydreaming about a fantastic summer; silver-grey & electric blue eye-shadow; this!!!, & finally, my father (Daddy Darling!) for scanning in this photo (CHECK IT OUT, non-regulation uniforms FOREVER!) & this one in which I look sooooooo excited & happy! The perfect photo for Things I Love Thursday, wouldn’t you say?!

“I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically, musically, in whom feelings are much stronger than reason. I am so thirsty for the marvelous that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I can not transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn’t impress me. I only believe in intoxication, in ecstasy, & when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls.” (Anaïs Nin)

How about you, delicious one? Tell us who & what is making up your fountain of delight this week! Love lists please, tout de suite!

P.S. If you have photo of yourself as a kid, link it up! We want to see!

  1. Hi Gala, i’m having a shitty afternoon so i totally need this right now!

This week: got confirmation for my first ever gallery exhibition (WOO!), took a set of surprisingly good photos, hosted a flatwarming party (yippee!), got sequinned masks in the mail from my mum, ate a lot of good bagels, and saw a bit of sun.

It’s been a good week. today’s suckiness shouldn’t detract from that.

  2. I’m not exactly a child in this photo, but I am 13 or 14!

TILT: Planning lavender milkshakes, getting new dollies in the mail, fooling around on dating sites, peachy vegan bubble tea, planning my newest tattoo and booking a flight to PARIS in March!

  5. Those photos have just made my day even more magical.

I’m currently buzzing about: a job interview today that went pretty well (i think!?); listening to florence & the machine endlessly and having tickets to see her yaaay!; finding chocolate here i usually get in france!; starting to watch SATC right from the start in time for SATC2; reading a tonne of books i’d put off; Chanel Couture SS10 (omg beautiful!!!); latte cupcakes; hearing my photography tutor show excitement over my work; and lastly… finally feeling independent and in control of my future!

    xoxo

  6. Getting a wake-up call from someone, being off for exams, blogging like mad (http://moremagicalways.blogspot.com/) and enjoying EVERY single second of it, ordering foundation samples, feeling confident enough to go out of the house without wearing makeup. Finding a BEAUTIFUL photo shoot in one of my magazines, all ruffles and gorgeousness, learning from my mistakes, chocolate, having cake and tea, scones with butter, red velvet cupcakes with buttercream icing, huge mugs of tea, and drawing a beauty mark under my eye. Reading fabulous books and being told I’m “brilliant.” All in all, a good week.

Oh, and the kids I assistant teach call me “Miss Loonae.” Hahahahaha

  19. Becoming a Ginger again, tutus, making a dress for the boo’s show, the fact that all twelve students in my high school sitchery class, including me, are making lingerie for our first project, delicate dresses with messy hair and make up, nipple piercings, care packages, getting heartbreakingly lovely mixtapes in the mail from head-over-heels-in-love men, putting glow in the dark stars all over my car’s dashboard.

  20. That Anaïs Nin quote literally gives me goosebumps, it fits perfect with my life right now. “ I am so thirsty for the marvelous that only the marvelous has power over me. ” W O W
I was skyping with my parents yesterday and my mom emailed me later saying that i glow, she sees i’m truly in my element living my own way.

    Today i love:
+My parents for loving me unconditionally
+Upcoming Roadtrip, its going to be different travelling in Wintertime but nevertheless soooo exciting.
+My boobs, haha yes i went to measure my bra size and am now the owner of properly fitted bra’s. Wearing my new bra’s lifts up my confidence sky high.
+The storm outside, the wind lifts up the powdered snow on the ground making me want to dance forever in the garden that looks like a giant snowglobe.

My sisters & i were wearing matching outfits most of the time: at the zoo

  25. Gala! The second picture of you is pure love. I know “Gala Darling” isn’t the name you had when you were that age, but honestly, it seems just as apt for that lil girl as it does for who you are now.

    Things I Love Thursday:

changing into yoga pants and a loose long-sleeve shirt the minute I come home from class in the afternoon; making a big cup of coffee and reading the newspaper when I wake up at 7; doing this again when I get home at 2; snowflakes clinging to my hair and the fur on my coat; bright purple tights in the grey/white weather; the “iClub” podcast which has driven all my workouts this week; anne carson; stretching; phone calls from rome; zipcar adventures; the weekend starting now

  27. It was my birthday earlier in the week, so today I am mostly hearting my lovely friends and family for their kind wishes, presents and cards – it’s rather super to receive colourful envelopes and parcels in the post! I’m also loving: trawling record fairs, second hand shops and ebay for more second hand vinyl to add to our already groaning shelves, and to listen to on my new turntable (lovely birthday gift from my OH) – this is predominantly 80s trash – early Simple Minds, anyone?!; Haribo sour strawbs; a teeny tiny penguin-shaped hot water bottle which has been my constant companion through the past 10 days’ cold (bah); finally finishing off some handmade birthday gifts and being pleased with the results (hope the recipients like!); and finally a lovely dram of whisky on Burns’ Night.

Herewith a particularly stylish (!) photo of me at a disco dancing competition aged around 7, which I think epitomises the 80s – batwing sleeves, sequins, legwarmers and pink fishnets… (Not much has changed in my wardrobe in the intervening 20 years or so…!) (Try not to get distracted by the amazing VPL in the background!)

  54. Today I’m Loving: This gorgeous vintage armchair Daddy Dearest got given to him by an old friend, and which I then proceeded to steal and install into my room (it’s tan leather, a recliner, and it rocks!); the fact that I am now walking unaided after breaking my leg eight weeks ago; I get to see my favourite aunt this afternoon; my room is ridiculously clean and I love it; wearing dresses everyday this week; the silver Vera Wang frame I found when digging through my cupboard (why would I leave it in there! For shame!); the fact that I have discovered that I still have left over alcohol (most excellent!); that I am now the proud co-owner of the complete collection of the Sex and the City DVDs (my sister and I were too cheap to buy them alone, so we split the cost and are co-owning it! I have first turn!).

  83. What a lovely quote, made my day.

For me, it was losing the car that belonged to my grandparents, complete with my grandpa’s WWII sticker on the back, only to inherit my Aunt’s car which smells just like her perfume and makes me feel safe and cozy like when I would sit on her lap and she’d read to me. I hope it never goes away! Such a great “new car” (new to me that is) smell!
