Bonjour! Welcome to Monday-land!
I’m not going to grade myself on last week’s resolutions because, well… I didn’t do too well. But hey! It’s a shiny new week, sparkling with promise. Who needs last week’s resolutions?!
Onward & upward. Here is what I am going to do this week!
Work more effectively & consciously
I’ve been reading Timothy Ferriss’ The 4-Hour Workweek with great gusto & I’m really enjoying it. (I’m not finished yet, once I am I’ll review it for you.) One thing he talks about is how we get more work done if we have less time to do it in. If someone gives you two hours to complete a project, you’ll get it done straight away, while a deadline that stretches out in front of you for three months becomes a hideous wrestling match. Because I work in our living room, I find it hard to unplug from work, & so I end up caressing my Macbook from 7am until midnight every day. Even when I’m not posting articles, I am still replying to hundreds of emails, talking to advertisers, planning things for the future. As much as I love iCiNG, when I’m awake, I never really spend more than a couple of hours away from it. So I’m going to compress the hours I work on it — & hopefully this will increase the quality as well as the volume of the work. This kind of scared me as a concept, & I wondered what I would do with all this “free time”. This is an excellent problem to have. Life is going to become much more exciting because of this alteration!
Make a whole lot of changes to Cupcake!
I have a mailing list (oh, didn’t you know?!) called Cupcake which goes out every Thursday to a few thousand of my closest friends. (Hee!) Last week, as well as the normal stuff, I asked my Cupcake kittens to fill out a little survey about how I could improve what I mailed out. The suggestions were magnifique & I’m going to start doing things differently. Ooh la la! It’s an exhilarating time! & I have to say, asking your readers for feedback, while initially a bit nerve-wracking, is totally worth it. If you have a blog or a mailing list or anything that you want to make better, start asking your readers for their thoughts! They know what they want; all you have to do is give it to them.
Finish up podcast
I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, so… it’s time!
Start planning trip to New Zealand
Simon & I are going to be in Wellington from the 2nd to the 7th of April. Yay! I’m hoping it’s not going to be too cold, but I’m sure we’ll survive… ! I am about to whip out my Moleskine & start doing some serious planning! We both grew up in Wellington so there are always about 3 billion people to see, places to eat at, favourite shops to visit, etc. I’m also planning on doing a spot o’ shopping… Dare I say the clothing in New Zealand is better than almost anything I’ve found in Melbourne?!
What’s on your to do list this week? Grab a badge & tell the world!
Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala ![]()

Daily Outfit -- 2nd March 2008

I did OK on last week’s list, and I got heeeaps of other stuff done. It was very productive. This week I am going to survive until 5pm Thurs, and then I will have FIVE gorgeous days off, far away in my sweet, isolated place of origin. So:
Stay focused.
Remain calm.
Take supplements.
Smile and be friendly.
Care for myself and my family.
Go to an Urban Art Expo at the Mexico City Museum
Get a new dress
Go to my first golf tournament
Play more with my PS2
Rest more.
Last week I accomplished all my goals, I feel proud of myself n_n.
Kisses.
You’re coming to Wellington? YAY!!! I know you’re not lying when you say you’ve got “about 3 billion people to see” but I would love love love to see you honey! xox
Nadine — You’re so lovely. Want to come to Wellington? ;>
Juls — Good work honeypuff!
Felicity — YES! Let’s do it!
:D Scha-wing!
This week I am going to:
~ eat 100% raw organic vegan for the whole week (starting today, ending Sunday)!!! :o
~ buy myself a kick ass blender to assist with aforementioned resolution.
~ go & see the Whales exhibition at Te Papa – collections.tepapa.govt.nz/exh…
~ try the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party cocktail (it comes in a dainty China tea pot with two tea cups!) at Alice bar – www.whiterabbit.co.nz/
~ go & get my monthly Balinese massage & facial at East Day Spa seen as I didn’t get to have them on my birthday the other week – www.eastdayspa.com/
~ really look at my new years resolutions in the front of my Moleskine. I kind of look at them all the time but we’re 1/4 of the way through 2008 now (canyoubelieveit?) & I think it’s about time I paid my little friends some attention again and set new goals if I’m not quite in the place I thought I would be.
That’s all folks. :) x
Ahhh! I am dying to go to Alice! It must happen!
Monday goals are such a good idea.
This week I am going to :
follow up
work on my blurb to get freelancing contracts ( any wise words???)
pick up my coffee table from my ex office
keep asking my self – is this what Mr Magorium would do?
( new favourite movie Mr Magoirum’s magic emporium)((excuse spelling))
Oh, i’ve never done this before. i am practially an icing-posting virgin.
your weekly resolutions posts really inspired me to start writing down my goals for the week (i’ve sticked a card to my computer with my resolutions written on them last week, and it really helped)
this week, i want to: – start exercising regular regularly (it’s spring, time to stop being lazy!) – finish compiling my study-folders (i have one for each important subject) – start to learn cooking – prepare an easter present for my best friend – eat only when i am truly hungry
Eeeee, I love monday goals.
I will:
Order a sun-blocking shirt for disney world (My nutty trip leader has decided we’re not going to stop at the hotel on our first day and spend ALL DAY at the water park. I predict 3rd degree burns for my pale self.)
Make sure I don’t put off all my assignments til the last minute.
Finish packing for spring break.
Finish up reading my books.
Basically, I have to do a lot before I leave so here’s the simple stuff.
-Finishing the book for Roman Law before the deadline, hopefuly on Saturday
-Make the essay for the Constitucional class ahead of time
-Try to go to a disco, though is Easter so I don’t know if I’ll can, but I’ll try! :D
-Cook something awesome, like cupcakes or thai food :P
OK. Weekly resolutions….
·Driving lessons (I’m 28, mother of 2 so I need my driver’s license…can’t tell you how much EFT has helped to remove the fear of driving…I’m nearly there!)
·Drink more water
·Start/finish my Uni assignment
·Visualize the successful launch of my online magazine and book
·Take time to relax
·Buy a special notebook to record thoughts/gratitude/doodles when I’m on the phone etc
Oh Lord! 4-hour workweek led to the events that caused me to get fired in Nov…that book completely changed the way I look at working!
This week:
• Complete tweaking website
• Design business cards
• Complete 5 projects from my sewing bag
• Practice with my relaxation/anti-anxiety CD
• Finish reading Cheese Monkeys!
Sarah Hough — Hmmm… just be enthusiastic & concentrate on what you have to offer! Visualise a positive end result!
Miranda — Welcome :D !!!
Sarah Prout — Good for you, cutie! That is awesome. You’ll get there!
Stephanie — Eeek! Was it a good thing or a bad thing?!
You’re lovely too, Gala. I ALWAYS want to come to Wellington!!
:)
I didn’t do well either Gala!
Here are mine
1. exercise once a day
2. Keep room clean every night before bed
3. Drink more water
4. Eat a litttle healthier
5. Drive ONCE must get license!!
Good luck this week!
My first iCiNG resolution list!
- apply to lots of fabulous, creative jobs – house-hunting for a chic warehouse apartment! – planning Melbourne adventures for the Easter holidays! – early morning yoga, lots o’ water, fruit & veggies yum! – practicing patience & calm…
izennah xoxo
I did everything except applying for graduate programs, instead I applied for a job and got an interview then got pipped at the post! Silly HR woman but that’s another story.
This week my resolutions are:
~ Enjoy myself
~ Keep my room clean and tidy (the hardest one!)
~ Continue applying for graduate programs
~ Help celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday (which unfortunately falls on Easter this year)
~ Go job hunting
so many sarahs!
this week i am going to pull everything out of a room in my house everyday, clean it, then put back everything i want. anything i dont want goes to the pile in the garage for either the sallies, trademe, or the dump.
aslo take some photos, but not at the beach or gardens. hmm i need to find somewhere to go.
I have so much that I need to accomplish right now, so my plan is to prioritize what MUST be done this week!
- I just changed jobs (for a much better one!!), but I won’t have insurance for two months. Unfortunately, I just found out that a test I had done came back with some less than ideal results, so I’m deciding to make an appointment now and swallow the cost (thats what better paying jobs are for, right??), rather than wait to find out that I could have done something to better the situation sooner.
- Drink LOTS and LOTS of water, eat breakfast every morning, and take my multivitamin and calcium supplements EVERY day. I was doing really well with it for a while, but I’ve been lax for the past week or two.
- Utilize my having off work all day Tuesday to go and visit the apartment that I’m really hoping to be able to rent soon.
- I joined a gym a while ago (*cough*acouplemonths*cough*) and haven’t gone. At all. It’s shameful. So I’m setting a goal to get there at LEAST once this week to kick off the new positive habit.
Kele — If you want to remember to take your vitamins, put them somewhere that corresponds with what you do every morning. For me, I have them in a container on my desk, next to my computer, so as soon as I sit down, I take them. Hope this helps!
Well, so far… this is my list:
- Read my driver liscence education book. It’s boring, and tedious, but I have a little picture of a map with a road-trip route I want to do of the East Coast of US to inspire me! (Like, go to New York City, check out Maine…)
- Be happy and appreciate things. My aunt just found out her lung-cancer is terminal, so I want to be there for my family. She’s doing good so far… :)
- Plan an after-prom roadtrip.
- Drink water. I really don’t drink any, so I think I should start. ;n_n
Good luck everyone!
I achieved my one goal :] It took about 4 hours to get all the music moved and stuff but now I can listen to it. Yay.
Goals for this week: *Organise the next wedding outfit *Get some heel gel cushions for my beautiful new (and ridiculously cheap) shoes I just bought. *Makecup cupcakes for the social club easter afternoon tes *Stop rushing to the work kitchen everytime there is left over food. I did it again while writing this
Eeep, I wonder if I’ll see you when you’re in Wellington!
this week I am trying to be a happier individual and to find inspiration for my writing. I’m feeling kind of zapped of my usual creative energy. Although, on my search for inspiration I found this website and I thought that it would be helpful for all of those in need of some artistic inspiration. This is it:
writetodone.com/2008/03/03/31
Enjoy!
Weekly goalsss:
-finish music hunt
-update my website
-finish t-shirt designs for my friend’s band
-work on virtual high school assignments [i take an online AP Art History course besides my regular high school that i go to]
-finish printing digital photos
-work on my portfolio pieces
-finish planning my bffs surprise party
-work on writing a new song for my band
-begin searching for a prom dresss!
-driving lessons
woo! i got maaadddd goals this week :]
good thing spring break starts wednesday!!
I did all mine last week!
Even got my boyfriend writing a list of his own. Weekly resolutions are awesome!
Gala!
I spent a week in Auckland for a family wedding a few weeks back and I noticed how angular and sleek fashion seems to be in New Zealand! For women AND men! I managed to restrain myself to a few choice pieces but it could have been very messy and resulted in a lot of excess baggage.

++ Addmyartjournal Interviews: I interview other artists, at least once a week, at the livejournal community community.livejournal.com/addm… addmyartjournal. I love doing it, it’s a fantastic opportunity, but it can be rather hard to track down so many artists, ask them for interviews, get the interviews and find pieces of their art to post. I have a long, fantastic, list of people for the next few weeks. I’m quite excited about them.
++ Dye My Hair Pink: I ordered the dye on Friday afternoon, it’s almost here and I can’t wait. I am very much looking forward to finally having pink hair.
++ Homework: Get together with my scene partner, memorize my lines/plan my costume, write Sociology paper, do more research for Sociology project, do my Sociology test and read the next chapter. I have a lot to do this week, luckily it’s spring break!
++ Work on Secret Project: My husband and I are working on some secret projects. I’m really excited and we need to get these things rolling.
++ File Taxes: Seriously.
++ Workout: I’ve been slacking in the last week. Not good.
yayyy for Wellington trips. i’m going back over in July for my father-in-law’s 50th. i can’t wait, because i truly love Wello!
and i So agree that Wellington fashion is top drawer :) lots of lovely wintery clothes. having said that, i’m never quite sure where to start for actual shopping for said lovely clothes, so if you have any tips i’d love to hear them. (excuse me if you have already written about this!)
lcmo — I wrote an article on NZ style a while ago which has info about all of my favourite designers! galadarling.com/article/new Voilà! I can’t waaaait to go shopping, I have been looking at all the designers’ websites & plotting what I want!
Re: Your NZ trip…so exciting! I may see you out and about, and be totally starstruck :P
ah, whoops i was wrong. thank you!
oh and as for resolutions, i did get some done last week, hooray! i find that if i don’t get them done in a week, breaking it up into even smaller sub-resolutions helps.
this week i’m going to make a birthday card for my brother-in-law’s birthday, and book my rail passes for my Japan trip. whoop!
I didn’t make a list last week, and I feel like that may have contributed to how difficult the week was, so… Here goes nothing, right? Am writing them down on a piece of paper and taping it on the bookshelf on my desk, right in from of me.
Eat Healthy & Drink Loads of Water -It’s tech week for Vagina Monologues! And people are getting sick, so I need to do my best to stay healthy. So I need to eat well, drink water, drink tea, etc.
Fifteen Minute De-Stress Break -This is an every day goal as well, recommended by my producer. It can be whatever I want, as long as I allow myself at least 15 minutes per day of ‘me time’.
Stay On Top of Homework -Tech week makes this difficult, but I don’t want to fall behind again like I did after my frisbee tournament.
Internships -Stay on top of those internship possibilities! Email everything I can find, write those cover letters, etc.
VAGINA MONOLOGUES -I’m performing on Friday & Saturday, and I’ve been working towards this all semester. So I need to be awesome, and enjoy this experience to the fullest before it ends!
hey gala… wellington’s not too cold at the moment!!! actually got a wee bit sunburnt (naughty) on sat just wandering round the streets!!! getting cooler at night but i guess thats what duvets and boyfriends are there for huh??!
love your blog and hope you have a spectacular time!!!
1. Finish my friend Molly’s mix CDs – a 6 disc volume of getting her into listening to indie, plus mini-biographies on the 30 bands. lol i = music geek!
2. Do nice things for my sister every day. She is in her school’s production of Les Miserables, so she’ll be at school till 11 every night, not to mention stressed. I remember the feeling. She could definitely enjoy her room being spontaneously cleaned or a magical breakfast to go, i think.
3. Take pictures of my gorgeous new outfits for my 100 in 1001 blog (thesummerintodust.blogspot.com) to work on #22.
4. Finish 3 calculus worksheets. (Left over from last week, bad Kayla!)
5. Start a new book, either Dan Brown or …Gossip Girl. What can I say, that review on Carousel was tempting!
kayla! post the artist/song lists :)
ha ha! i didn’t do well either – lack of discipline is the core of this negative result.
so this week it will be;
self-discipline !
(error error: we had a major discipline problem last week at our home)
finish script & b-plan
(I have to work hard/harder.)
wake up at 7
call mama more
(I should stop postponing any phone calls actually but mom is privileged :] )
talk less
(focus more!)
creativity rocks!
(it does! I have to make time for it)
fingers crossed!
I did a lot of the things on last week’s list, so I’m pretty pleased!! New resolutions:-
*Start revision BUT don’t get stressed out by it. This is my 4th year of uni exams in a row, 7th Easter revising so I should be pro by now. I’m not but I should be.
*Keep up with the exercise! Perhaps do some pilates on my “days off”
*Keep up with the water drinking
*Sort out all my washing and dry cleaning
*Send off forms for accepting my place at law school and my summer job
*Wear some interesting clothes and find fun ways of wearing my jeans. Any suggestions?! I always seem to end up with jeans and a t-shirt. I don’t like skirts with trousers, so I need a bit of help here!! I’ll go searching on Facehunter I think
I did…none of my last weeks. Oops.
So this week I’m just gonna have one simple one…
~Watch a really good movie every day!
Might seem lame, but I need cheering up, and movies are always good :).
I did quite ok with my last weeks resolutions but I didn’t finish reading “mansfield Park” (but I started reading another book) and I didn’t create great outits but I manged to do the rest on my list!
This weeks resolutions are:
1. plan my trip to Budapest (I’ll go there this Friday)
2. plan my farewell party for my current work place
3. drink more water
4. buy a birthday present for my bf’s mum
5. create a lookbook out of old magazines
I did 3 out of 7 last week!
So I’m going to do the same resolutions again!
I really like this feature of your site – you write great personal development / productivity articles and they’re really inspiring!
My resolutions are:
1. Get better – I’m coming down with a cold I think!
2. Sleep more!
3. Eat more healthy foods
4. Write more articles for college fashion
Those are pretty much always my resolutions except for the first one.
- Briana of www.collegefashion.net
This week i want to look ater my outwards appearence more. The better you look the better you feel. im off to get beuaty sleep but this is a very good new idea 4 a post. Ur a genius gala. xx
★ finish the reading of two books
★ call the MAC MAN to repair my CD and DVD burner

★ outstanding orders to be invoiced
★ go to the shoe repairer to pick red boots and brown bag (left 2 months ago), leave three bags to repair and pick them on wednesday
★ ‘intention walking’
★ make some meaningful organization at home
★ an illustration a day
★ healthy eating
Malena, I like your illustrations a lot!
As for me, I did quite well last week (except for the writing part… bad Theremina, bad).
This week will be very school-oriented:
Study for next week’s exams. Yes, I know I’d rather be doing something else.
Stay calm. This is important, since I’m tending the Sorbonne stand at Paris Book Fair, and I don’t cope very well with this kind of assignment (stupid people get on my nerves quickly).
Write.
Research for my thesis. It’s about SF publishing in France. I might buy starry knickers (found at Women’s Secret) to motivate me.
last week:
- do lots and lots of work on my exhibition project for uni
well, i did some work on it. better than nothing, non?
- go an entire week without smoking *thursday was a minor (well. quite major) blip, but other than that i have managed!
- eat sensibly and healthily, no junk.
er. i ate better than i usually do?
- go the gym.
um.
- go out on thursday night and drink alcohol in a sensible and mature manner.
i…well. i went out, so that’s half at least! and i didn’t pass out, nor was i sick.
- clean out my exhibition space at uni and repaint the walls where they’re all covered in ink.
yes! yes, i managed one!
- drink more water!
oops.
- work lots so that i will have lots of lovely money for my new tattoo
yes! and i have booked said tattoo!
this week’s resolutions:
- keep working hard and earning lots of money because i am sick of being poor and scrounging off my mother.
- start tidying my room before i suffocate in all the junk.
- watch at least five movies.
- eat well, as little junk as possible and no binge/starve cycles.
- plan iamx tour which starts next week!
I did all of mine last week ! haha
- Send off all college applications.
My dad is actually doing this as we speak ! haha
- Catch up with my work.
Got 2 weeks off college so I’m taking the opportunity to do so.
- Spend some time with old friends.
Hopefully on Sunday ! Known them over six years but since we finished school we don’t see each other so much.
- Finish reading my book.
Then I can buy another one ! eek.
- Drink more water !
I’ve kinda slipped on this lately soo..
- Relax !
As it is the holidays, and ther last chance I’m going to have to, before exams begin !
Things to do this week:
Secure a job for the summer! My parents refuse to help pay for an apartment this summer unless I can prove I can pay for the majority of it. Waiting tables, here I come!
Finish my schoolwork I have loads and loads. It must get done before I go to Philadelphia for my boyfriend’s father’s birthday this weekend.
Continue looking for internships
Spend a little I need some new clothes, stat. But seeing how I need to spend money, I don’t have a lot to spare. So I’m going to buy just a few things.
have you ever heard of 52nightsunplugged.ning.com/?
one of my other favorite bloggers, Ariel Meadows, has decided to take one night a week away from all techie things. it might give you some ideas on how to spend your time away from the screens :-)
what shops are good in new zealand? wow ive heard melbourne has the best shops and cant seem to find anything too amazing in new zealand apart from waayy too expensive shops. what shops udo u mean :)
- Get well! I’ve been sick for the last six days, and I finally visited the doctor today. Now I have the means (antibiotics) to get better!
- Renew my gym membership card. I made a promise to myself last year to get in shape. I tried, but I didn’t quite get there. Now I’m going to try again!
- Eat healthy. I want to completely cut processed foods out of my diet, so I’m going to sit down and write out a menu for the next week.
- Start sketching. Maybe a sketch a day. I want to change my college major to Arts, but I need to get over my fear of failure.
amber — No, I haven’t! I’m just having a look now :> Thanks!
Melly — See link in comment above: galadarling.com/article/new !
erm…2 out of 4. why can I not seem to get a full score?..It doesn’t matter how many resolutions I make I can’t seem to do all of them.eep! Maybe I shouldn’t be making these resolutions? Il try again and harder this week!
- make doc appointment!!
-call up for free pilates class
-gather and create pirate costume for easter weekend
-keep walking home from one station early
-BUDGET BUDGET BUDGET!!!
goodluck all.xxoo
i did ok on my last weeks resolutions
plan my trip to new york
learn the songs from wonderland
drink more water
i’m naughty! it’s tues already, & i haven’t thought of any resolutions. but i did ok on last weeks, drank water, did eft, didn’t smoke, etc.
this week:
+ go to NZ. I am going to visit my sick grandma on Sunday & coming back April 2nd. It’s gonna be hard but my resolution is to tell her how I feel about her & how amazing she is, & to cook her fave meals, pick her flowers, talk to her a lot.
+ spend heaps of time with my family & friends back home.
+ treat my boy. I have been ‘neglecting’ him a little lately cos i’ve been so busy & organising family stuff, so I am planning on taking him out to dinner on Sat before I leave to go overseas.
+ get a new flatmate! I REALLY must look for someone to move into my almost-spare room, so if anyone’s interested in living on the cheap in North Melbourne, email me! haha
+ be friendly. This is a good one. Tis rather hard, since I get SO claustrophobic on the cramped sardine-can trains in the morning, which makes me feel crabby & nasty. Coffee usually fixes this a little, but stops me sleeping well at night in the heat!
+ drink more water. eat more healthily. keep NOT smoking!
Gala – I, and many other NZ nonpareils, I imagine, would love if there was some kind of event in Wellington while you’re in the country. Perhaps a cupcake picnic, a dress up tea party, something fun and zany celebrating all the things we love about iCiNG – please think about it!
My resolutions:
- Continue drinking LOTS of water. I have been drinking 1.5 litres a day most days for the past week – Post out all my trademe stuff on time blush – Clean & ORGANISE my room, and continue my clear out and sell crusade! – Roam op shops for fun new clothes, for myself and also to sell – I’ve been buying awesome vintage & designer things cheaply and reselling, it’s giving me such a rush.
