“You Look Like A Mistress At A Funeral!”
I wore this outfit a couple of Saturdays ago to meet Molly for crêpes! (I had two, lemon & sugar, & chocolate with strawberries. SO GOOD!) Mike came with me, & as we were walking along the street, he looked at me & said,
I thought that was so funny & too good not to use, hence the name for this outfit piece! Anyway, it turned out that I loved the proportions of the outfit so I wanted to photograph it & show you. Otherwise known as, how I spent my morning!
I was wearing…
Black vintage hat
Black knit sweater from Forever 21
Super-sparkly necklace also from Forever 21!
Black bustle skirt gifted by Bird by Juicy Couture
Miu Miu knock-off heels
Tarina Tarantino heart ring & a skull ring from eBay
So! The shoes. I actually didn’t like the real thing when they came out, & even when I started to see them on other people, I wasn’t moved. But of course, one night I was browsing eBay when I found these listed for $55. The pink satin & the crystals started to call my name. They became irresistible.
I quickly consulted Jess (my shoe guru) & asked her what she thought. “I think they’re kind of hideous, but rad,” she said. I agreed, & decided to roll with it.
When they arrived & I tried them on, I fell in love, even though some of the crystals fall off every time I wear them… You get what you pay for, I guess!
People often ask me how I take my own outfit photos. While it would be rad to have a photographer boyfriend like so many fashion bloggers, I don’t! (My man races motorcycles instead, which is just fine by me!) It’s no biggie though, since I’ve been doing this for about five years now.
You will need:
One outfit you think is worth sharing
A digital SLR camera
A remote control for your camera
A tripod
Preferably a second lens
Maybe a second pair of shoes so you can traipse around & find the right location without breaking your neck
No shame
Once you’ve found a good spot for picture-taking, set up your tripod & camera. Look through the viewfinder, line it up & then stand in front of your camera & strike some poses. It can take time, but I always think it’s worth it. Plus, it’s really fun!
Taking your photos in a public place is always an adventure. Yes, people stare. Yes, they ask me what I’m doing, which is kind of hard to answer. (“I have a website & I’m taking pictures of my clothes…” ?!) Sometimes they take photos of me taking photos of myself, which is even weirder! They always think I’m totally crazy. I don’t mind!
I love Autumn weather. A few of the trees are only JUST starting to turn, & the temperatures are absolutely perfect!
