Berlin And Amsterdam, Here We Come!
It’s hard for me to believe, but in a few short weeks, Kat and Shauna and I will be gallivanting around Berlin and Amsterdam! I haven’t been to either city since the very early 2000s, and last time I was there, I spent most of my time wandering aimlessly and having my mind blown.
As the unofficial tour director of all Blogcademy outings, I am essentially in charge of finding good restaurants, pointing the way to cool shops, and keeping my babes entertained. So I’ve been doing my research, and getting extremely excited!
BERLIN
We’re staying in Mitte, which is apparently awesome. I can’t wait to walk around and look at plenty of beautiful street art… There is so much of it!
I’ve been perusing Unlike’s Berlin guide, and finding all kinds of treasures. (Our Berlin Blogcademy venue, Agora, was even featured on Unlike!) Starstyling looks rad, and I can almost guarantee that Shauna will want to visit RSVP! Decor8 did a guide to Mitte that spotlights some great places, and all this typography makes my heart go pitter-patter.
There is so much to do. Spreepark is an abandoned amusement park you can sneak into, and Badeschiff is a swimming pool made out of a shipping container, plonked into a river. Eeeee! I can’t WAIT. Ich bin begeistert!
AMSTERDAM
We only have a few days in Amsterdam, and we’re staying near De Pijp, slightly outside of the centre because — uh oh! — we waited too long to book our accommodation. (Hot tip: if you’re going to Amsterdam in the summer, book your digs months in advance!) Our apartment is really cute, though, and we plan on renting bicycles to ride around and explore the city.
The Unlike guide to Amsterdam seems like a good place to start, and this piece on Fathom Away has some suggestions. One of my favourite things to do in a new city is explore independent boutiques, and it looks like De Pijp has plenty! I’m looking forward to exploring Nine Streets, too. This post from The Cultureist makes it all sound very promising indeed.
Of course, I would love to hear any suggestions of places we should visit!
By the way, while researching, I got lost in a Pinterest hole… Some of the more interesting things I found: Martha knows how to pack a suitcase! Look at this intense outfit planning! This packing list will be useful, and here’s how to survive a long-haul flight in economy. I got so distracted reading all this stuff that I finally caved and bought a neck pillow for the flight to London. Oh man!
