New Moon Magic: December 2015

I can’t believe this is the final New Moon Magic column of the year! It has been so much fun to bring these to you, and I’ve loved seeing your rituals and magical workings on Instagram under the #radicalselflovecoven hashtag!

This is our last New Moon of the year, and it’s in the wonderful sign of Sagittarius. I have both a Sagittarius Moon and Rising, so I am vibeing Sag pretty hard at any given time. Even though I’m a Virgo, the Sagittarius influence gives my spirit a lot of colour and dimension. My Sag edge encourages my independence, urge for freedom, wanderlust and international playgirl tendencies. It also amps up that part of me that cannot stand inauthenticity or insincerity: give me honesty or give me death! So, maybe that gives you some idea of how this New Moon might feel… !

To help you make the most of this Sagittarius New Moon, Mystic Medusa has the astrological overview, and I’ve got suggestions for how to use the energy to your advantage. Let’s go!

IN THE SKY… (Mystic Medusa)

There is a distinct “fuq it” tone to this New Moon. And that’s not a bad thing.

Think about it. It’s in the radically candid sign of Sagittarius – you tell the truth and it feels good. This does not mean free-for-all confessional ranting or cruelty, it just means ‘stop lying.’

It is also in supportive aspect to rad planet Uranus – so this New Moon is a time when fresh starts are augmented. It’s in hardcore aspect to Jupiter and Chiron so it’s THE push you need to make a sharp break with the past and any crap attitudes, habits, practice, assumptions or resentments that you are still hanging onto from then.

Chances are that, if you’re not seeing something that distinctly need to go, you’ll see it by this New Moon. That’s because the build-up to it – all week long – is Mars in agitation mode. Mars = fantastic instincts. Obey your gut instinct about raises your energy, what shatters your cool, where you feel powered up and inspired, who fogs your vision, when you feel fenced in etc.

This is a New Moon of Honesty & Liberation.

ON THE GROUND… (Gala Darling)

“Three things can not hide for long: the Moon, the Sun and the Truth.” ― Gautama Buddha

I’ve been feeling the incoming Sagittarius energy since Saturday: it hit me in a big wave and I was literally unable to hold my tongue any longer! After that, I went on a little truth-telling spree and let me tell you, it felt so good.

If you have things on your mind that you’re dying to express, the moment is right to share them, but if you want to time it astrologically, make a list of your grievances this week and then start dropping bombs on Friday. All that lies on the other side of truth is freedom, so don’t be afraid. This is a beautiful opportunity to live in deeper integrity.

ASK YOURSELF WHAT YOU’RE TOLERATING
What are those little interactions that suck your energy and drain you of vitality? You will surely notice them in abundance over the next few days, so take note! A lot of what we put up with or tolerate is just societal conditioning or something we learned in childhood. It’s immensely valuable to take a step back and ask yourself how things make you feel, since after all, that’s the only thing that can’t be argued with.

If you’re really not sure how you feel about something, simply ask yourself, ‘What would I tell my best friend if they were in this situation?’ That usually clears things up with the quickness!

OPEN YOUR THROAT CHAKRA
To facilitate truth-telling, it can help to clear out and open your throat chakra. There are a few easy ways to do that.

Since the colour of the throat chakra is blue, keep that colour close to your neck. Try wearing a blue scarf or necklace when you need a little boost.

You can drink 5th Chakra Tea, made with licorice, fennel, marshmallow, slippery elm, wild cherry, cinnamon and orange peel. It’s even infused with aquamarine!

Here’s a breathwork exercise to clear the throat chakra.

You can also use essential oils like lavender, neroli or sandalwood: either daub them on the skin (be sure to mix with a carrier oil first), or inhale a couple of drops from a tissue.

DON’T WITHHOLD YOUR TRUTH ANY LONGER
Sometimes we get it twisted and think that lying is simply the opposite of the truth. I think any time we decline to give voice to our innermost feelings, we are lying: both to ourselves and others. In order to live in full authenticity, we need to be able to say those things that we feel, especially when we fear the response of others. It is essential for us to EXPRESS OURSELVES, as Madonna and N.W.A. would say. In fact, consider listening to both of those songs your magical assignment for the week!

One of Don Miguel Ruiz’s Four Agreements (best book ever) is Be Impeccable With Your Word. In the book he says,

“Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama.” — Don Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements

Read my piece, A Punk Rock Take On The Four Agreements, for more on the subject!

I know that it can be scary to say what you really want to say, to ask the questions that are buzzing around your mind, to request the things you want. But it is essential that we summon the courage to do so. When we do, we grow, we become more courageous; our relationships become stronger and more transparent; and we open ourselves up to new opportunities we would never experience otherwise.

If you’re feeling really nervous, script it out. Have a “practice conversation” with your best friend before you try it out elsewhere. I promise you that no matter what the result, you will feel brave and badass for speaking your truth.

Love always,
