Photo Diary: Virgo Birthday Time!
My favourite birthdays are always the ones I share with a close friend. In New Zealand, I’ve done double birthday parties with Jennie, one of my favourite people, who happened to be born three days before me, on September 10th — & they’re always a good time. In America, Miss Nubby Twiglet turns a year older a day after I do (though she has a couple of years on me!).
Nubby & I celebrated our birthdays together in 2008 & had an amazing time in Central Park. We put an open invitation out to anyone who read our blogs, saying they were welcome to come & join us for cupcakes & photos! It was a wild day, mostly I remember that it was insanely hot & I felt like my make-up was melting! We had about 60 guests, who were all so rad, & then a few of us went back to the room we’d rented at the Hotel On Rivington for bed jumping, cake throwing & the best sleep EVER!
This year, we decided to do something a lot more low-key. We commandeered a community garden & invited a few of our favourite people over for a midday birthday picnic…
There were bubbles & miniature cupcakes, skull-shaped goblets, a disco ball, multiple cakes & balloons EVERYWHERE. I wore a pink sequinned Betsey Johnson dress with a flower crown & false eyelashes. It was a wonderful way to send off the year that has been & welcome in the year ahead!
Beware! LOTS (& I do mean LOTS) of photos follow!
A birthday isn’t a birthday without bubbles…
Or a disco ball…
Showing Nubby how to use her new camera!
Jazzi loves to help. Isn’t her hat epic?!
A real playgirl blows up her own balloons!
Fumi & Asami are the cutest!
Nubby & Eliza.
Cake from Venieros, a gift from Hugh & Pat!
Creamy delicious!
I’m not sure what The Dish is helping me with here, but I have a photo of myself from my 5th birthday party where I look exactly the same & my mother is in his place!
Skull cups… Thanks, Party City!
Eliza did the honours.
I shot silly string & it landed on Nubby’s Miu Miu handbag… You should have seen the look on her face, hahah!
After a little while, circumstances dictated that we move on…
Hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go!
So we decided to walk the dogs over to Tompkins Square Park. There was a festival going on but even despite that, our Birthday Gang ™ made quite an impact. Soon, we found some park benches, & sat down in our sequinned finery so we could swig from open champagne bottles, watch children throw rocks at squirrels (?!) & listen to music which sounded like poltergeists…
Turns out that Chloe boots make excellent hiding places for champagne bottles!
Nubby is always saying that the three of us should form an all-girl pop group. It’d be good, right?
Trying to preserve her modesty!
I turned 27 today & I know that this is going to be the biggest year yet. Lots of changes are coming… I can’t wait to see what happens!
