Things I Love Thursday: High School Besties!
Spending time with my best friend from high school! This week, the girl who — seriously — kept me sane throughout high school was in town! Jennie, or Mama Turk, as she is known, was in NYC at the end of a trip across America, & it was SO GOOD to see her! You cannot even imagine! We have known each other since we were about 15; we were the only two girls at our school who wore eyeliner & listened to Marilyn Manson! We were a year apart, but we ended up in the same photography class & it cemented our friendship forever. We have spent so much time together over the years, huddling in front of heaters, dancing to 80s music, coaching one another through relationships with grossly inappropriate people & writing letters back & forth.
We had an incredible time, despite NYC’s sweltering heat. We ate vegan ice-cream sundaes every day, got our nails done, ate Mexican food & went to the Addams Family musical! It was so so so great to spend time with her again. I love her like mad. She is on her way to London right now, then to Turkey for a month. Neither of us wanted her to leave! She loved New York City & I hope she makes it back really soon!
Extra special bonus: Look at us back then!!! If you look closely, you can see my dog collar… I would like to think we have both improved with age! Hahah!
It’s so funny to think back on it. I’m sure that when we took these pictures, we never thought we’d be in NYC in our late-twenties, doing it all over again!
Reading old journal entries & being totally weirded out Vegan ice-cream sundaes! (Lula’s Sweet Apothecary forever!) Opening the front door & feeling the rush of air conditioning (total relief!) Seeing best friends sign one another up for Radical Self Love Bootcamp! & boyfriends who enroll their girlfriends! So adorable~ Pugsley Organising heaps & heaps of travel (Miami, Chicago, New Zealand [!!!], Buffalo) Wearing this dress to the gym (I love it!) Researching wedding readings (& discovering so many incredible love poems in the process) Talking about Bukowski with my trainer, Alex (hi Alex!) Wishing I knew a small child so I could make them wear this to my wedding, HAHA (evil bridezilla comes out to play!) Cute emails from my parents — I can’t wait to see them, my mother gets in tomorrow night & my father flies in Tuesday morning! Frank Sinatra Singing while I do the dishes Having nice long hair which I can flick around like a pony! Getting my “trial” wedding make-up done by Ashley! Doing lots of writing Walking around NYC at night in the warm weather with my BFF My iTunes delighting me with a selection of 90s tunes …& this is my last weekend as a bachelorette! TREMBLE!
“The way to find out about happiness is to keep your mind on those moments when you feel most happy, when you are really happy — not excited, not just thrilled, but deeply happy. This requires a little bit of self-analysis. What is it that makes you happy? Stay with it, no matter what people tell you. This is what is called following your bliss.” — Joseph Campbell
