Things I Love Thursday: The Delight Of A Warehouse Rollerjam!

Things I Love Thursday

It is officially the first day of Spring, and I couldn’t be more delighted. Talk about the longest Winter ever! Tiny buds are beginning to appear on the branches of trees, bright green shoots are sticking up through the dirt, and we’re all feeling hopeful. The sun is out, and it’s almost time to store my cold-weather clothes away for a good, long nap…

I can’t stop myself from taking photos of every bunch of flowers I see. These were sitting outside a bodega in the East Village. I loved the combination of colours and the layered petals. I would definitely recommend putting some fresh flowers in your house this weekend: bring the Spring inside!

The definite highlight of my week was heading out to Bushwick to attend Patina’s rollerjam. I walked through a nondescript warehouse door and was confronted with a cacophony of colour, a riot of rollerskates, and more bedazzled weirdos than I could shake a stick at! It was a crazy awesome party: on offer were real and temporary tattoos, pizza from Roberta’s, ice-cream sandwiches, plenty o’ booze, a photobooth, and of course, ROLLERSKATES! (There are more details here.)

This video is so great. It really captures the excitement and the mania!

“The trick is not how much pain you feel — but how much joy you feel. Any idiot can feel pain. Life is full of excuses to feel pain, excuses not to live, excuses, excuses, excuses.” (Erica Jong)
