A girl named Nicola who lives in England — she sent me a copy of Rachel Zoe’s Style A To Zoe, which brought me an intense amount of glee! Big loves to YOU, my darling! I devoured it in a day, & I am going to write it up for you all soon…
Daydreaming about taking a butoh workshop — it spans five days & I know it would totally kick my ass. I don’t know if I am brave enough to go, but it would be amazing!
“The aim of this workshop is to develop body awareness and expression through a response to landscape. This 140 acre site nearby to Mt Arapiles allows participants to move between bush land, sand dunes, open fields, river and elevated rock, opening up the senses to color, texture, sound and form. Over the weekend, Yumi will introduce various methods of Butoh, Body Awareness and Consciousness of Well-being. Yumi also invites Qi Gong /Tai Chi Teacher Andy Green to introduce us to a way of controlling and focusing the inner energy. The se body works will act as powerful counterpoints and as opportunities to filter one into the other, strengthening the links between the external environment and the internal landscape.”
Lesbian pulp fiction — I once read an interior decorating book where someone had filled their bathroom with stacks of old gay pulp fiction books. I can’t think of better reading material, quite frankly. I am yet to purchase my first lesbian pulp fiction tome, but I’m looking forward to it, I tell you.
Treehouses — Since we live up really high & in the middle of a city, having a treehouse is not totally realistic. I am, however, very keen to start filling the living room with plants. I am also very enthusiastic about buying a little lavender plant whose buds I can use in my baking.
Carnival tents in bright colours. I have always loved them. I especially love them when they’re in slightly unusual colours — like bright pink or purple, or with stripes or polka dots. Too beautiful, especially against a vivid blue sky. (Oh!)
Wigpees. Okay, I know you probably have no idea what I’m talking about. I have had an obsession for a really long time with the idea of having a teepee in my apartment, with cushions inside it — somewhere I could just sit & be. But as far as I know, teepees or wigwams are really big. I would want a little one, Gala-sized! So I combined teepee & wigwam to make… wigpee! I used to call myself the Notorious W.I.G.P.E.E. See, I am mental!
Looking through other people’s Flickr favourites! It tells you a lot about people, I think. It is kind of weird & voyeuristic but it is one of Flickr’s best features.
Trapeze. I love people who can be graceful & strong at the same time, it impresses me like nothing else.
Burning Man — I am on a big Burning Man kick right now. I keep looking at pictures of it & desperately wanting to go back. Next year’s theme kind of turns my stomach — the American Dream (?!) — but I don’t know, I still really want to go…
New haircuts! & also, my new hairdresser. The girl who used to cut my hair — who I went to school with in New Zealand?! — has gone to Mexico & been replaced with this fabulous new girl. Initially I was going to go white, but the pink just wouldn’t come out (thanks, Special Effects!), so we had to come up with a new plan. We decided on purple with blue ends. Then she cut it into a weird pixie do. It was very cheap, too — $189 for two protein treatments, two lots of bleach & a bleach bath, two colours & a cut. I like the cut a lot, which is rare because I usually hate what hairdressers do for at least a day! She has millions of fabulous ideas & I am happy to be her guinea pig. The next step is long purple extensions coming from the back of my head & cascading over my shoulders, like some techno geisha. Yes please.
iCiNG Day! This weekend! Yay! I am very excited. Also, there is a hint in this piece about what I’m celebrating… hee hee!
Other honourable mentions: Typing (it makes me feel productive!); The Village festival (I am really excited about going!); beautiful sunny days; scoring incredible vintage dresses on Ebay (wait until you see what I just bought…); hanging crystals which cast rainbows all over the iCiNG Bowl; watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit? & feeling like Roger & I are kindred spirits; unexpected gifts; dressing up & getting giddy; making plans & long lists of things to do; listening to ‘Timbaland Presents Shock Value’ really loudly; being secretly in love with all my nonpareils (aka YOU!).
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.” — Melody Beattie
