Things I Love Thursday
So let’s be brutally honest — I am writing from bed, with about 70% of my essential functions focused on recovering from last night. It was a doozy! The party was for Boutiques.com. I’m going to write some more about my involvement with Boutiques.com soon, because I think it’s a really fun & also interesting concept. (Disclaimer: They invited me to curate one of their boutiques — click here to see it!)
Anyway anyway anyway, the party was fab. I took my friend Amanda who works at Betsey Johnson, we both wore Betsey head to toe (see?), & we walked around exploring the venue. They did amazing things inside! There was a chocolate-tasting bar, a girl hanging from a hoop, a Moroccan room, a tarot card reader, a human-sized chess set, a lawn (inside!), breakdancers, & an open bar. (Danger!) It was fantastic, & a lovely privilege to be invited.
This week has been a really, really good one! There has been epic productivity, tea dates, walks around the city & glorious weather. The leaves on the trees are such bright colours right now — cherry red & acid yellow — that it almost looks fake. I absolutely love it.
“Burger clouds” Running around the Coach party with Shae (I adore her!) Making flipbooks! Sunday date night (cocktails & scotch & low light) Really good Chinese food I am obsessed with seeing Black Swan & Burlesque! (For totally different reasons.) Burlesque is all about sparkle & costumes, & with Black Swan, every time I see Natalie Portman’s reflection turn in the mirror, I get chills over my entire body! THE NEW GIRL TALK ALBUM (it’s a free download, so get on it for god’s sake!) Super-productive Monday mornings Hot tea & chocolate croissants & listening to The Chills Rihanna & Drake’s What’s My Name Leather leggings worn with Senso Neve booties Bright Lights Bigger Cities by Cee Lo This stationery (NEED) Echofon Skulls, skulls, skulls! Drinking a litre of water every day Amazing fortune cookies — I opened one the other night which said, YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL AT EVERYTHING ! Running into the girls from Rebecca Minkoff in the street, getting to see their sample sale & walking away with a new bag! (LOOK at that colour! Thanks ladies!) Hank & Dolly’s winter coats are coming in & they’re so thick & soft! Molly Crabapple for being 100% rad, 100% of the time Orange juice in a tiny carton Michael Jackson This bar, White Noise, which has Swarovski crystal cow skulls in it! Velvet palazzo pants (oh yes, I did) Cuddling the dogs for heat! & of course, my boyfriend, who becomes more wonderful with every passing day.
Let’s top it off with an amazing poem, hmm?
Still I Rise
Maya AngelouYou may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard. You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
