Eccentric Heiress In Dolores Park
(A continuation from Wicked Schoolgirls On The Streets Of San Francisco!)
…After superstar photographer Lydia Hudgens & I had a quick bite to eat at Cafe Gratitude in the Mission with Star, we raced back to my hotel room for an outfit change. We had decided to shoot something in Dolores Park, & the outfit also needed to take me through the night to the Zivity fashion striptease event (which was the whole reason I was in San Francisco in the first place!). After multiple changes, I settled on this.
There was a definite chill in the air, but the sun was out, so this outfit worked well. I ended up carrying my jacket instead of wearing it that afternoon, though I was extremely glad to have it on hand when we left the Zivity event near midnight!
I am wearing…
Black furry hat from vintage shop in the Mission (ISN’T IT AMAZING?! I am totally channelling ROYCE here!)
Pink machine gun earrings from Girl Props
Cheetah wink dress from Betsey Johnson
Grey skirt from H&M (Jazzi’s!)
Four beaded crystal bracelets (gift from Lydia!)
Betsey Johnson watch
Heart & grenade knuckleduster ring from Five & Diamond — wish I had caught the name of the designer but I didn’t! I think it was Anna someone? Anyone know?
Balenciaga Twiggy in magenta
Kenyon leather jacket courtesy of Rugby Ralph Lauren
Black stockings
Dr Marten Regina boots
I hope this doesn’t make me sound like I am tooting my own horn (parp parp!) but I really love this outfit. It freaks me out how well everything goes together, & a lot of it was completely unplanned — like the bag, my bra straps, nailpolish, & the bracelets Lydia gave me! I think it could be improved by a skinny turquoise belt around the waist of the skirt, but that’s about it…
Even though I’m wearing the dress tucked into a skirt here, it is amazing as a dress also. It’s short with a ruffle at the bottom & is super-flattering & sexy. It’s not the sort of thing I would have picked normally, though! Amanda at Betsey Soho — my favourite Betsey girl — handed it to me & told me to try it on. She does this all the time & her picks are about 90% perfect! She is a clothing genius. You should go & see her next time you’re in Soho!
In these photos, I’m eating ice-cream from Bi-Rite Creamery. Flavours? Honey lavender, salted caramel & brown sugar. Seriously & honestly, without a doubt, the best ice-cream I have ever tasted. It’s definitely one of my favourite things about San Francisco!
As you can see, my make-up from the morning (by the incredible Lauren Warner) was still going strong. All I had to do was apply a little bit of powder to keep the shine down, & put on some more lipstick! (I’m wearing Dior 197 Mauve Eclair, which Lauren gave to me so I could touch it up. It is gorgeous!)
Here’s a close-up of that two-finger ring from Five & Diamond. Incroyable, yes?
Soon, the sun went down & after a quick dinner of cheese & crackers (glamour!), Lydia & I made our way to the Zivity event. I wore the same outfit, less the hat.
I walked in, gave my name & got my pass, & Tim Ferriss walked in behind me! Funny. It’s such a small world! (I have met him a couple of times but am pretty sure he doesn’t remember me, haha.) I met up with Dolly Dahl who was wearing a sparkly corset & handed me a bedazzled lollipop! Then Lydia & I realised there was a beautiful living room area with fabulous wallpaper… so, of course, we couldn’t resist.
We had such a great time at Zivity‘s fashion event. When someone invites you to a fashion show/striptease, it could certainly go either way, but I was delighted to find that it was a really sexy & fun event with a lot of personality. The clothing, by San Franciscan designers, was gorgeous & perfectly summed up the Zivity attitude. There was lingerie by Sugarpuss, jumpers by Danielle Pettee, dresses by Invisible Hero Industries, fetish couture by Nocuous, menswear from Steam Trunk, eco-design from MonTree & insane wearable art by Chrystie Cappelli.
One outfit from each designer was auctioned off for charity by way of a striptease at the event of the show. The more money you bid, the more clothing the girls would take off… Nice!
Even better, as I was standing around drinking champagne, I saw Violet Blue out of the corner of my eye. I snuck up behind her & grabbed her (bad manners!) — it was so good to see her again!
As if the show wasn’t enough, there was also a free photobooth which I couldn’t resist using! I dragged Lydia & Violet in with me & we posed like there was no tomorrow. It was the best photobooth I’ve ever seen, actually — the lighting was really flattering, you could digitally review the pictures before they printed, & they came out quickly. I give it an A+! (They also had props outside the door… Hence the Viking hats, moustaches & oversized hearts!)
After our day of shooting, Lydia & I were so exhausted as we drove home that we alternated between silence & delirious laughter! I thanked her for an incredible day & crawled back to my hotel room to pass out… & steel my nerves for a roadtrip to Los Angeles with Kevin & Amy of Shrinkle & Sugarpill fame!
