Things I Love Thursday
[ 23 April 2009 ]

Yayoi Kusama: permanent inspiration.

My silver diamante G ring — I just rediscovered it at the bottom of my jewellery box (which is actually a Hello Kitty lunchbox, & has served me well), & have been wearing it every day. I used to wear it as a set — G A L A across my knuckles. Want a blast from the past? Remember this? (Whooooah!) Anyway, I have a bunch of other rings I like to wear now too, & since G A L A takes up a lot of finger real-estate decided to just wear the G on my thumb. It makes me very happy. Funny how something so cheap (I think it was probably $3) can bring so much unabashed glee.
Having my breakfast delivered. The ultimate in laziness… or is it? Yes, I could run next door & grab some nosh, but when you’re in the middle of a writing frenzy, in the flow & really don’t want to tear yourself away from the keyboard, a deli which delivers is like a gift straight from heaven.

New apartment possibilities — I’ve been thinking about taking over the lease in this apartment when the current lease runs out (I’m subletting), which is on the first of June. But I told myself that I would have a look around the city during the month of May to see what else is out there. Make an informed decision, you know. Plus, scouring Craigslist for apartments is one of my favourite things to do. You think, what would my life be like if I lived there? How would I decorate it? What kind of parties would I throw? Anyway, yesterday a cute apartment appeared in my life which I am going to look at this weekend. It’s a two-bedroom with no closets, but I couldn’t help thinking, ‘Well, I could use that second bedroom as a closet… & merchandise it like a shop…’ YUM, how good would that be?! So, we’ll see…
My friends — What a group. Oh, how they indulge me. Especially when I am cast adrift in the wild seas of Boytopia. Damn, I love you.

Manfesting Mondays (#MaMo) on Twitter! This is new to me & I have yet to participate but I think it is the cutest idea ever. You can read about how it works here & here!
David Dallas – Indulge Me is my new favourite song. FAVOURITE SONG. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve listened to it since I discovered it yesterday. Firstly, mean beat. Secondly, nice flow boyyyy. Thirdly, David is totally awesome. Best rapper in New Zealand, what what. It’s such a privilege to know him. Okay so now that I’ve totally shamed him out, listen to this song (& enjoy the amazing video — PostIt Notes!!!), then go buy his song on Amplifier! It’s only $1.99NZ, so… give it up!
Honourable mentions: The Mixtape Show (extremely enjoyable, I have been playing this constantly for two days, mixtape 118 is especially great); late-night phone conversations full of laughter with cute boys with good voices; letting episodes of The Girls Next Door play while I clean my house; the question What is one thing you can do today to “try on” the life you say you want? (via @TheQuantumCoach); sweet girls who send you “feel better” tea; 2 hour phonecalls with Simon; being a French new-wave movie (boy with dapper haircut lying on the bed, girl in lingerie smoking by the window, at night, talking about the nature of love); 10,000 Twitter updates (WHAT!); anticipation of The Box (oh you & your filthy mind); cake for breakfast; also, avocado sushi rolls for breakfast; making arrangements to see my friends; MF Doom as wake-up music; making my bed in the mornings (a friend of mine said to me recently, “An unmade bed is the first sign that your life is out of control”, & now I am meticulous about it); S&M salads; being pulverised by the masseuse; upcoming indoor picnics with cute girls & a pup; looking at shoes online ALL DAY; a comment on a new Ludacris track which said “this get the panties off straight up” (aaaaamazing); seducing Luis Tovar from Pretty Much Amazing via Twitter — him & his dad, the pirate; good soup; shout-outs on my friend LAYFE‘s radio show; getting as much sleep as I feel I need; dinner with some of my favourite people; Venus going direct (thank you); invitations to visit other cities, & the return of bunnyhair! (The thrill will be short-lived, I assure you, but I do like a change!)

“Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains two descriptions: might have, & should have.” — Louis E. Boone
It’s that time of the week where I invite you to pull up a chair, grab a cushion, crawl into my lap or whatever you like, & participate! Gimme some sugahhh! Odds are excellent that if you’re even reading this you have a pretty privileged existence, & you probably already have everything you need to survive… The happiest people are always those who have the ability to look around them & appreciate whatever they already have — rather than constantly thinking about what they don’t (aka don’t have)! So think about what you’re super-happy & thankful for today, & let us know! It’s no good without your contribution, we’re waiting for you! Lovingly, of course… !
Love letters & feather headdresses,

Good luck with the apartment hunt! I have a 2-br house. One bedroom is for my bed and a desk. One bedroom is for a chair, an ottoman and all my clothes. Until there’s a roommate, a baby or another reason to fill that room, I say, indulge yourself! Why not? :)
Let’s see, this week I’m loving:
*Cat naps with my cat *MY NEW COMPUTER!!!! *This website: www.reversibledestiny.org/ (Gala, you seriously need to check it out, its astounding. We’re learning about it in one of my classes, my professor helped do the audio for the Bioscleave House)

Well, this is just wonderful, Ms. Gala, and it made my heart bubble like boba. Thank you for writing it. I love your twitters, and they make me feel as if I know you, which feels a little stalkery and weird since I don’t.
I often blog about what I’m thankful for, you know, I’m on the gratitude list tip, too.

Here’s my Things I Love Thursday, this week: picnics and strawberry cake, my new BFF, yay! click HERE: tippytoe.twoday.net/topics/Thi…. Also included: last week’s TILTs. Polaroid edition e.g. Woah, April has been GREAT so far…
Gala, you should review The Box when you get it!! I’ve considered trying it out, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on it! I mean, I can’t imagine it’s not delicious, but it’s the sort of thing a gal likes to know more about before she dives into having it shipped all the way to her non-NYC domicile!

As for me this week:
<3 Getting a new very cool, very low-key part-time job that will keep my pockets sufficiently lined without taking up all my time and energy.
<3 An awesome someone moving much much closer to where I live.
<3 Knowing I’m acing this semester.
<3 …But also knowing the semester is almost over. No more macroeconomics! EVER! HA!

Getting into a class that I really wanted and really needed!
New tights because my old ones were BUSTED!
Making an über-chocolate chocolate cake for a friend’s birthday!
Making plans to go Castle Frankenstein this weekend!
And kind of, maybe, possibly not feeling quite so hopeless about what I’ll be doing post-graduation!
I would love to have a second bedroom as a closet. You should totally do it. xo Cari isnotfashion.blogspot.com/
www.silverjewelryclub.com/Defa… because they have awesome jewelry for really cheap (lots of necklace pendants, but no chains, and lots of earrings and rings)
my semester ending really early (I’m in my last week of classes, and then I have finals next week)
Rocking horse ballerina shoes (really cute and very versatile. good for many different styles)
*Drawing up a budget and realising that I CAN afford to go to Paris at the end of the year (if I control my spending).
*Nearly being finished with an assignment
*Red Bull – not good for me but it keeps me going
*Knowing there’s some awesome things coming my way in the mail
*Sending a ‘Yay! You passed your driving test!’ present to a friend.
*That I just picked up the keys to our new home. *The movers that will arrive Saturday morning to keep me from having to move all those boxes, etc myself. *The big awesome office/craft/studio space in the new home. *The direction my art is going. *The anticipation of unveiling my new website in just a week.
Wednesday night!!! I went to see Lily Allen with some wonderful friends and it’s most likely the second best night of my life. I keep on thinking about it all day today. There are too many wonderful things to write here without taking up a lot of space. EEE!!! Extreme joy and happiness! :D
long time reader, first time commenter –
having spent the past two weeks on a cross country road trip with my boyfriend the number of things i have for my TiLT is sort of huge, but I’ll try to narrow it down a little:
- my boyfriend, and experiencing the following with him: – driving through the Rocky Mountains, – standing in the middle of a Redwood Forest and looking up, – randomly finding this crappy little Route 66 Museum, – San Francisco, – Carhenge (even in the freezing cold wind), – the Musee Mechanique in San Francisco, – driving CA 1 down the coast of California on a cliff by the ocean, – Gatlinburg, TN and it’s insane combination of state fair and renaissance faire and art community,
and … the feeling that I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
I’m having such a crap week, if you asked me earlier I would have said 1. Nothing
BUT WHATEEVVAAHH
1. pizza
2. sunshine
3. my badass elephant earrings
4. my new tie dye pants
5. ma fraaaannzz
Gala, I think I might have seen you in Union Square/Third Ave; not sure, though, and I was a little hesitant to yell out “OMG GALA”, but the girl had bright warm candy-colored hair and an awesome outfit heehee (I don’t think her hair was as pink as yours though, and that was why I didn’t shout because I’ve mistaken people’s identities a little too much for my own good xD).
anyways! Things I love Thursday:
-Walking in warm(ish) spring rains; This American Life (which I’ll be seeing live tonight! I’m so excited!); my Hot Fudge Sundae shoes from ModCloth (the most fabulous and comfortable pair of heels to walk in ever ever); managers who undress their mannequins so you can have the last dress; retail therapy; my new leopard print umbrella from Laila Rowe (it’s absolutely fierce); chocolate eggs; How to Live Like a Lady by Sarah Tomczak; walking around in Anthropologie with a good friend simply to admire all the cute things; my blue and white flowered Anthropologie teacup; Spielberg’s A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, which really brought back my love of robots and androids and robot/android love stories; The Arrival, by Shaun Tan (Shaun Tan who I will be seeing at a graphic novelists’ panel in Cooper Union in two weeks! Squee!); the ever warming and ever lovely spring weekend weather; picnics in Washington Square Park; friends who come from afar just to visit New York; almond butter and boysenberry jam sandwiches on thick white bread; pomegranate green tea; boys who appear, boys who disappear; my mottled notebook (it’s served me well through all these emotional hurricanes); long conversations in coffee shops; going to free readings at the Lilian Vernon Creative Writers’ House, getting two good grades in a row (wonder in which class the third one will be?); writing lots of stories; running into acquaintences at the oddest of times (which makes it ten times more awesome); my lovely and wonderful friends, who know enough about me to drag me into Anthropologie when I’m crying and upset and to walk around with me until my smile is back or to give me a hug and tell me I should set up a Roch IRA (to each their own, I suppose) or to simply listen as I ramble on and on and on and cry; and my smile, for it disappeared for a few days, and I am so, so, so glad to finally have it back.
Oh my gosh, my favorite thing is to look at apts and day dream about them. I shoot high though. I look at the ones I can’t afford and think about what I would do if I could. I never told that to anybody, but since you are sharing I thought I would too. ;)
“If the beds are made the house looks tidy” – my mum. (Lord above, those old initial-ring photos are MAD cute! Bring back the fringe!)
Here’s my list:
Stacy Gregg’s blog – on the Ezibuy website! I’m not even kidding! I love Stacy’s writing, and I love Ezibuy’s clothes – how did this happen? I’m stoked.

Wow, if I had to make a list of reasons I’d like to live in New York, I think getting breakfast (my favourite meal of the day) delivered would be somewhere near the top!
I must admit, seeing you post that unmade bed quotation on Twitter did motivate me to make mine this morning, though I did so after checking my email and drinking my morning coffee. It still counts though! I love looking at apartments and houses, deciding how I’d decorate them. I still can’t wait to own my own place, I think it’s pretty much my biggest “easily” attainable dream at the moment!
My TiLT is here: sparkleandglitter.co.uk/2009/0…
ohhh do you have pictures of your jewelry box set-up!?
antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap09…
being wished “blessings”
honest conversations with friends who are older than you
that’s all i have for now. it’s been a rough week!
the fact i’m days away from leaving college for good; watching films with my insanely sweet boyfriend; my bed, it’s a good bed; waking up to sunshine; the pale mark left where my watch usually sits; the fact there’s a huge, white limo opposite my house on the tiny road; making plans of pure fantasy.
I’m thankful for the positive response i got to my latest post. For friends who spread the word. For friends who listen. For being able to paint and journal. For books and blogs like this one that always put an extra spark on my day.
thank you Gala!

-studying. a lot. i love it when i do it with pleasure.
I’m enormously stressed with the end of the semester, job-hunting, and apartment planning, but taking a moment to think of what I love will be nice…
that I’m even fortunate enough to attend this college that I love, doing something that I love to do; that my projects are on things I like (hey, that’s not so bad); the apartment I’m moving into is beautiful and I will be able to furnish it nicely; that I have enough money to get by until I find a job; the weather getting warmer; coffee with shots of vanilla; reuniting with people of importance from years ago; my new piercing; passing friends with abundant smiles; making time to work out; new stationery; remembering I’m loved!

- Surviving my first weekend Cocktail waitressing:
I only followed the other girls around, but I think I’ve gotten the hang of it. I start on my own tomorrow. I was a little upset about the uniform, but I can wear shorts and cute black sneakers, so phew!
- Having an excuse to shop:
I’ve been broke for such a long time now, and the fact that I have new job prospects is allowing me to spend money. Granted, on things that I need for jobs, but I did also score a Purple tunic at Target for $8… a few more weeks and I can actually spend money! WOOT!

-My brother, I’ve always had a hard time getting a long with my little brother (he’s in the autistic spectrum) but lately we’ve been having so much fun together and we get a long sooo well and it makes me fucking happy! I think we both realise that I’d be stupid to waste what little time we have left as siblings living with our parents by something as useless as fighting!

Who said getting breakfast delivered was the ultimate lazy thing to do? I love having breakfast delivered :) It feels nice not having to prepare anything so early in the morning. Makes you feel like a princess haha.
People opine that the term paper titles writing is the most time consuming process. However, people count on the media essay service help every time when it is required.
