Sequins In The Grass
Does the word “sequin” make you think of the 80s, Dynasty, and big shoulder-pads? As much as I love a good paillette (noun | a piece of glittering material used to ornament clothing; a spangle), sometimes my mind goes there too. And when you find a great sequinned piece, it can be hard to know how to style it.
It’s the Great Sequin Conundrum: they can feel so dressy that you feel like there needs to be a jazz flute playing to do them any justice.
That’s kinda how I felt when this beautiful Lauren Moffatt gold sequinned pencil skirt came into my possession. I felt conflict. I thought, ‘This is gorgeous, but how do I wear it?!’ It was a real styling conundrum.
My answer came in the form of a $15 shirt from Forever 21. How unexpected, and how fabulous! Cream and black and gold is always a winner, and it’s fun to wear a pattern with something so unabashedly glamorous.
I guess the lesson here is, don’t be so precious about mixing your clothes together, and don’t forget to play with surprising combinations! This is truly a perfect outfit in which to sit on the grass and snap photos, or swan about your Palm Springs abode.
I’m wearing a shirt from Forever 21, the Lauren Moffatt Lazy Kate Sequin Mini c/o Cloak And Dagger (one of my favourite little boutiques in the East Village!), and Sam Edelman Warner Sandals (so comfortable! These will definitely be one of my summer staples this year). My rings are from my own jewellery collection, and my sunglasses are Celine.
Damn, that’s a good-lookin’ lawn!
Love and sequins,
